Ok this is the wrong sub forum but I want a bigger idea of what people like. If I go into the pedal sub forum I'll get one sided answers.

The question is simple. Do you overdrive your amp for your gain or do you use a pedal into a clean amp. Or.. do you boost into a driven amp for more gain.

All three, but in reality when playing out... I set my amp on clean and get the volume and sound that I want for clean. Then, I get everything else by using my pedal board, including all forms of gain/distortion/etc.

It just works better for me in a live situaltion.

On my Boss Mini Katana, I use the overdrive/brown sound.

1982 Marshall JCM 800 4104, straight amp but at low volumes.

1973 Vibrochamp, I use pedals.

@Alligatorbling has got me jonesing for a Sugar Drive. On the last JHS video on YouTube, Josh said it was based on the ultra rare blue Klon, not your run of the mill everyday Klon. So that's pretty darn cool.

The sugar drive is great. You won't regret owning one.

I use all three plus “Distortion preamp pedal directly to power amp” ... I am a bedroom player looking for that full saturated distortion tone at low volume... can’t be achieved other way
