Given me a little to think about, I usually upload a section of a my own track to show what I am using the pedal for, which may include delay/reverb at times...might throw a 'pedal on its own' section at the end of the clips from now on ;)

I realy got tired the demo's where the guy immediatly dimes the GAIN on the pedal and amp and is playing through one of his many EMG pickup based guitars. Yeah that realy shows what a pedal is capable of sounding like.

Riddle me this Batman, whats the difference if the 9v battery is in a pedal or in a guitar?

Spring and spam. I'm a bit disappointed because you forgot to include massive preamp distortion :laugh2:

However Burgs (Brett Kingman), Andy from PGS and Mike Hermans (Prymaxe Vintage and PGS) make some great demos in my opinion.

I will agree with ya about Burgs. Theres alot of talent there. And Andy at PGS is as good as they get also.

I dig Burgs.
Andy is a good player but the demos always sound really dark. Partially to do with his no pick routine and the amps always go down to bass amp range.

Still great videos in general.

what the hell are they thinking... perhaps the EH pedal does not sound so good on its' own...

All of their pedals that involve synthesis have the same steel drum type sound. So ya, they don't sound good on their own but they are still great at what they do.

The SuperEgo is that way but with any verb or modulation added, it's still a great tool.

The amplitude of the signal hitting the pedal.
Huge difference.
It's fine, as long as the demo dude says "oh btw....these are active pups."
That's all.

I think it is okay to do a contextual thing. Mike does a lot of that. It is important to really get a feel for how a pedal sits in a mix. It is also really entertaining. Nothing wrong with that.

Generally I only watch reviews by Andy at PGS, Mike Hermans from Prymaxe (and now PGS), Burgs and Just Nick. Those dudes do the best and most in depth demos and actually show what the pedal is capable of.

I do like GMD but it kinda bugs me that everything is through a dirty Dr Z, I wanna hear an OD through a clean amp at least a little bit. There's one dude that uses a ton of delay...on everything he demos.

I see. If you would of said something along the lines like 'It would help if they let us know what pickups or an idea of the output before the demo' I would whole heartily agree. It just looked like you were bashing active pickups to bash them. Being a EMG fan I have to stick up for my boys. :dude:

You mean other than I like pedals? :dunno:
Ah Sh!t I summoned the Dark Knight . I use to be anti-actives until I found the right guitar(s) with them in it. Then its a whole night and day thing. Plus, I find a lot of people who dislike them set them up as if they were an passive pickup. Got to get them so they are practically touching the strings when your rawking out. Then they really come to life.

I don't think this is a bad thing. I find that most dirt pedals sound better with the amp slightly dirty to begin with. My absolute favorite higher gain tone I get is through my cranked 5F1, when I hit my Plimsoul it hits you with a very satisfying Marshall crunch. Yeah, I can still get there with the amp lower and cranking the level and sustain but its just not the same. I imagine that is what he is going for but with all the stuff going on with Youtube videos the nuances are lost.

I doubt I said anything bad about active pups. But I never really pay too much attention to what I write. :)

I get what you're saying but a low gain OD through a dirty Dr Z doesn't really give me an idea what it'll sound like though a clean fender. I'm just saying maybe a little clean before the dirt would be a bit more helpful, I still watch his reviews though, they usually sound pretty good.
