Today a I held a VOS Pearly Gates that's on layaway that I swear weighs under 8lbs. Compared it to the VOS Bloomfield they have, which I know weighs 8.8lbs and it feels MUCH MUCH lighter.

Not sure, as we didn't weigh it, but I'd bet money on it. Anyone else have really, really light Pearlies? Just curious. BTW, it's a beautiful guitar as well.

Is there anyway you could get them to weigh it ? I have only had the opportunity to play one which they weighed at 9.1 pounds.

If it becomes available to me, I will. As I said, it's on layaway, but it may be coming off layaway or going to the fellow who is buying it - in which case I'll ask him as he's a friend.

I saw many in the 8.3-8.5 range when I was shopping for an R9.

Is there an "ideal" weight you guys are looking for? I see questions about the weight of guitars all the time. I can understand if someone's back can't handle a heavy guitar but it seems to be more than that with all the weight questions. It's not something that has really ever been a deal breaker to me. What's up with weight?

^ personal preference but some people believe weight & tone are related.
Haven't weighed it but my Pearly feels around 8.5 lbs.

The VOS I played was light as well -- under 8.5lbs, easily.

For me, the lighter the better. I'd love a PG that came in a tad under 8lbs. I don't know whether or not I'll really get the opportunity to buy this one... but I am sorely tempted if it becomes available.

Under 8 lbs? Wow. That is too light for me. Pauls that light (that are not chambered) are often not what a good LP sounds like to me. Everyone likes different things, which is why LP's of all weights and colors and tops will sell.

I like heavy guitars. I never weighed my 90 Custom but it feels like a tank.
