Pearly Gates Bridge vs Seth Lover Bridge

I'm in love with my traditional 2014 with Seth lover set but i want to try a pickup with more "balls " in bridge position. I'm thinking about Seymour duncan Pearly Gates, vintage sound but more output, think sounds between kossoff...Moore...Zeppelin...Def Leppard...Guns

The Pearlies will have a little more high end. The one with more balls all around is the Whole Lotta Humbucker.

I can't really comment on either, but I do want to offer this (in favor of the Seths). I recently swapped out my 57 Classics, which I LOVE, for a set of Wolfetone Dr. Vintage. I am convinced a lot of the magic in the more classic, vintage Les Paul tone is having unpotted pickups. I didn't expect to be amazed by these, but I'm amazed.

Since the Seths are low wind A2 based unpotted pickups, you might not associate them with "balls." But I have to say, the Wolfetones have balls for days. Just huge, beautiful, clear, articulate, chimey pickups with a ton of overtones. Were I considering these two, my vote is for the Seths.

Take a look at ECP, Wolfetone, or Rewind pickups. I'm sure any one of the three can get you setup in a jiffy!

I love the idea of the Seth's. No experience with them, but I would love to try them.

I have tried a Duncan 1978 Custom Shop. I really liked it first time around. Second time (a year later, both times through a couple of killer! Plexis) my feelings were more mixed.

That second time around I played an LP replica loaded with Wolftone Marshallheads. I liked those a lot. They were so balanced (tone, not coils necessarily) it wasn't like they knocked my socks off, more like they were just very sweet. Not as aggressive as the 1978 (certainly not weak!), but more complex than the early 90's 57 Classic + in my SG which very smooth and fat with plenty of oomph, plus sweet and juicy when played clean.

Very few guitars sound better than my SG with the early 57+, so the 1978 and the Marshallheads got my attention.

I think it's anyway you want them? Most I see are with aged or non aged nickel covers, no logos (if not covered) and are under wound.

In your situation I would have changed the magnet to an UO al5 or an al8 depending on how hot you want it.
Done it a couple of times and have been pleased with the results.

The Pearly Gates are potted and may sound thin on some guitar. Before replacing the Seth i would suggest to try a magnet swap. For a fuller sound try an A4, for more bite a un-oriented A5. Seth Lovers with both A4 also work very well.
