Just reading up on Mr Kossoff and realised March 19th March (March 19th) was the anniversary of his death.

J.Bonamassa has a fantastic podcast on him - The PICKUP Radio - Paul Kossoff: All Right Now - radio for guitar lovers!

And here is the song they talk about on this podcast - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGaOpZdB_48

As tired and dated this 'inspiration' may be to members here; Mr Kossoff just makes me want to pick up my LP and play the sh*t out of it.

RIP. :dude:

I wouldn't call him either tired or dated.

I went to see Paul Rodgers the other night in NJ. For most of the night, Howard Leese played a sunburst Les Paul that looked vaguely familiar. Apparently, this was Koss' 1958 "darkburst", which was subsequently owned by Rodgers and auctioned for charity several years back. It was brought to the show by its current owner. It looks like somebody wanted to "Greeny" it and flipped the neck pickup around.

Paul Kossoff is one of the reasons I play guitar. In my opinion the greatest vibrato of all, with Leslie West a close second.

Both very distinctive vibratos at that. I'd like to add Mick Ralphs to that list - I just LOVE his playing on BadCo's Straight Shooter album.

I like mick Ralphs but I always think he is a kossoff wannabe? Like he tries to imitate the koss vibrato because he thought that was what you have to do if you work with Paul Rodgers? I'm sure I am wrong its just the way I think.

Nah. Mick's vibrato is nothing like Koss'. Koss had that tortured deep bend thing with a fast vibrato on top. If anything Mick is more like Leslie West - slower and more "crying". This:

There's a Kossoff lesson in this month's (June 2014) Guitar Player mag if anyone is interested.
