Pat Tillman was the man.

I have THE most respect for people like him. People that do what they believe in no matter what the sacrifice. Unfortunately the outcome was very ugly. I love that fact that NFL goes out of their way every year to pay homage and to make sure he is not forgotten.

disagree 100%.
for some people the armed forces are the only option because they do not have much direction after high school, or they can't go to college for whatever reason and don't want to get another type of job. i know many people who joined the armed forces just because they were out of options. pat tillman had money. he didn't need to enlist, but he wanted to.
my personal beliefs aside, i'd say he was an exceptional person in that he went all out for his beliefs.

I agree with you too TT, but I have a hard time saying anyone is better than someone else who also gives their life for their country. I respect them all and to me they're all heroes.

I did want to add that, that is not my recon jack. I was with SOTG and trained those guys to operate in cold weather, I was not a recon Marine.

The sad thing is, more people mourned the loss of Ted Kennedy and Michael Jackson.

personally, i think it's a career decision like any other. and like i said everyone i know who went into the armed forces (with one exception) did so out of necessity.
mostly dudes who were kind of aimless, just kind of floating.

it is a decision like any other, in that you choose a job and do it, but that is where the similarity ends. The fact that some of the people were aimless and chose to join such a challenging and sacrificial profession indicates an inner quality to achieve something with their lives, instead of accepting their positions and being a bum on welfare. It is by far the hardest path to take, so for someone who has little drive to choose it and stick to it is admirable. I think alot of people flaunt their service and even try to take advantage of it, I don't always like that, but I do believe someone who has served deserves benefits and opportunities out of appreciation. I could be wrong but I get the impression that you haven't served before, only because you don't seem to appreciate how much you give up, it's a massive sacrifice being a regular force active member of the military. And that is deployment and danger issues aside. It affects every aspect of your life.

i have played paintball and modern warfare 1 & 2 for the xbox 360. so i guess you could say that i know EXACTLY what it is like to serve in the armed forces.

question for the servicemen:
when you were in the midst of combat did you ever get tired of the 13 year olds making "your mama" jokes?

 I know you were joking but there is always an undertone to your comments regarding service members and the war, is there any particular reason?

A lot of people could learn something from Ranger Tillman's devotion to this country.

And also his general approach to life. He was far from perfect, but he was an intense character.

Absolutely. You know it wasn't too long ago that these types of guys were our kids heroes. Guys like Audie Murphy (God Bless the 3ID:D), Alvin York, Ed Freeman, Chuck Mawhinney, Carlos Hathcock, and the list could go on and on.

There are plenty of heroes in this generation but sadly we're rarely told of them.
