That kind of makes sense that it could have been a baggage handler, but I wonder how the make that distinction between stolen and lost? And why were they lugging their own gear around? I've never seen a picture of a famous guitarist walking through the airport with a guitar case, past or present day. I guess Jimmy may have liked to have that guitar in his hotel room with him?

I think that you weren't around back then. Rock was a much smaller world, bands played theaters, and were just breaking into hockey rinks. The crews were a whole lot smaller than they are today. Zep toured in a station wagon the first time in the States. So Joe and Henry checked the gear on to the plane at the airline counter. The Starship wasn't until 1973. In 1970 I'm pretty sure that they all flew coach.

well, if you had one where the sr is scratched out...potential starts again for faking it. I still believe Page would be able to identify it very quickly

Agreed. When Peter Frampton saw his '54 LP for the first time in 30(?) years, he knew it was his within seconds of holding it. I think Page would as well. I did see a photo not long ago where you had a partial view of the back of the guitar. It may have been one of a handful of photos from the Raliegh '70 show. I'll see if I can track it down. It looked like a giant hole on the back; no plastic cover.

Found it.

It looks as though the original hole was made much larger with a smaller one added to the left.

thats interesting. never picked up on that.

I just bought a Burny BB 3 pup LP that I am going to convert into this

In 3 more days it's been 40 years to the day that I went to a Led Zeppelin Concert in Providence, RI on July 21, 1973. This is the week they filmed The Song Remains The Same. I had just turned 14. Best concert I have ever seen, and I've been to well over 100 shows.

Im seeing the picture with the violin bow being used on it do you think If not for it being stolen it would have become his main guitar for live outings over the #1 59' standard

I don't think so because I remember reading that he said he didn't take it out much due to concerns about it being stolen, lost or damaged. Something like that. I don't think it was the workhorse #1 was, at least not for live stuff.

You're one of them.

I was a ten year old kid in East Providence and had no idea at the time, but years later I knew older guys who had been to that show and could tell stories. We were awed.
