So i took it to an 'expert' today who took the pickups out, i knew they had the sticker from a small dental mirror i used, but wanted to know if they were the real deal.

He told me he thought they were just good fakes, his main complain being the "A's" from the sticker, too much black in the triangle, or something.

I expected a better reason, like the braid, soldering, or just a terrible sticker, bad hardware or something obviously not being as old as it should.

He proceeded to offer me $2,000 for the guitar afterwards, which i found a little suspect. At this point i guess its even more unlikely that they ARE real, but id like some other opinions

Send pictures and all information you have to Joe Bonamassa. If its real he'll let you know probably buy it

One bad photo?

Is that wax on the baseplate?

Are the pole screws cut short?

unfortunately thats the only picture im gonna have for now.

somethings do look more pronounced in the photo because of the overhead light, i think.

The guy i took it to does have some decent credentials, so i wont be surprised at all if he's right and these are fake.

Sticker looks too long, unless it's just the angle that the photo was taken.

Looks too brand spanky and new, PAF sticker is not like an old one, no L mark on the leg.
Do a search here for pics of PAFs and you will see what I mean.

Yep, I agree with James.

Not uncommon to see a stripped ES-175D......................a lot have been raped for PU's & Harness.

A shame really but I suppose to some extent we're all guilty.

If the Guitar is clean it is worth more than what he offered.

:cheers2:

Okay Rupert, it's difficult to remember names sometimes when we all use nom de plumes........... :laugh2:

And as you say Rudi worth more than 2k for sure if in good nick.
A mate of mine has a '59 175 and I checked that it had PAFs back in the day, unfortunately it had a headstock break which will knock it's guitar value back markedly..........'59 PAFs though are highly sort after, double blacks.
