Hey all,

Just ordered a set of 3-conductor P90's. I currently have Jonesy's full JP (coil split/phase/series/parallel) wiring from a few years ago with four push-pulls.

Now I know I won't be able to use the coil split push pulls, but how would I wire this thing to get a hum-cancelling middle position and have the ability to still have the tone-knob push-pulls? That is the ability to change phase and go from series->parallel.

IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE?

Cheers

Sure it's possible. You can wire for series / parallel and phase inversion. Normally in the middle position you get hum cancelling because p-90s are wound to be where one is reverse of the other and they act kind of like a 4" wide humbucker. If you invert either pickup's phase, you'll get double hum, and that weird duck quack thing you get from it. If you rig them for series, then they should still cancel hum but be somewhat louder.

tl;dr P-90s auto hum cancel in middle position by default. Other settings may make that less effective while giving other sounds. Not sure there's any wiring diagrams in the tone library for it. But i'm sure someone could whip something up.

Thanks for all that info! I'm still a complete amateur when it comes to wiring

I figured since I already have the rig installed I should try to get all the sounds possible out of the guitar

Is there somewhere on the forum I should ask/go for a diagram of such a thing? Would it be the same as wiring two humbuckers for all that business, just minus the coil splits (4th conductors?)?

A common thing is to use the serial and phase switching like your JP harness, but what I like to do is wire in different caps for a PUSH/PULL Varitone! PM me for a free schematic.
