I have an R4 that of course has P90's but they are NOT level with the strings. The routes have them tilted towards the bridge. Is that normal, I don't have another R4 at my disposal to compare it to?

What year is your R4? I have a 2004 and mine are level, no lean.

Is there any surgical tubing under your p90's?
Mine has short sections of surgical tubing, some that I have seen are screwed directly into the body.
I bought mine used, not sure if previous owner or Gibson put the tubing in.

My pups are screwed directly to the guitar, no springs or anything between wood and pup. If I were to straighten the pups and make them parallel with the strings, I would have to remove material.

Can you put a thin strip of wood on one side to shim and straighten them or is there no room? Do you feel that it is effecting the sound if the guitar?

Maybe someone else who has an R4 can chime in...

Hard to tell if it is effecting the tone, i guess everything does.

I am going to try to wedge something under the one side but I thing the pups may end up too close to the strings.....but worth a try.

Problem solved...
Took it apart, shaved off some routing burrs inside the cavity but only on the side that was high. Better, but not perfect...put some stick on dense foam, 1/8 or less on the low side; just a little strip. Worked on the neck side, and beautiful. Set everything back up and job done.

The guitar sounds a little fuller, but that's because the pups are now a little closer to the strings.

Thanks Rezinator, you gave me an idea that worked!
