I'm hopefully gong to do a precision lp jr kit and wanted to see how hard it is to make pickups. Going to read barnabys thread on it as well. Also are soapbar and dogear p90 s routed the same? Thanks!

They are routed similar, I can only guess the dog ears route isn't as deep. Making pickups isn't as hard as I thought it would be. It's kinda fun. I didn't w ant to make my own winder so I bought one for $300. I planned to make a buttload of pickups though, so the cost and ease of use will eventually be absorbed which makes it worth it.

I've wound some P90s and they are basically just big single coils. The best way might be to get a pickup kit from Mojo and a roll of wire. You could wind by hand (takes a long time) or rig something up using anything from a fishing reel to a hand drill. Lots of people have done this in lots of ways. :thumb:

you could technically just wind the bobbins till they are full. you really only need the counter if you have a specific ohms range you want to hit. I did some poor math that actually seemed to work and was able to calculate the turns I needed.

I personally like buying my stuff from mojotone.com for pickup parts. check them out if you haven't
