I've been lazy and it's been cold. Today was warm and somewhat sunny in comparison so I decided to take a few quick phone shots of my latest Gibsons.

I will say the R0 w/ the unpotted CBs sounds like someone pulled the blanket off the amp.

By far my favorite Gibson pups to date.

It was my best R before the R0 arrived. Can't say that I really notice a difference that I could attribute to the top. But visually the HR R9 is the most 3D top I've had.

I do notice that the rolled board is most prominent on the R8 (CC29) and Hard Rock R9. Pups are the big difference among the R8 (modded '57s) and HR R9 w/ potted CBs.

The R0 feels more like the '14 Rs I've owned. The rolled binding is not really noticeable. The unpotted CBs are the defining ingredient for me. The R0 sounds far more up front, more treble, and more immediate response. The R0 is more Tele like in comparison to the others.

They're all exceptional guitars. I'm just noting the minute details.

Nice, I had a Malachite hard rock R9 at one point, it was a nice guitar.
Enjoy!

@integra evan I'm just best guessing on Granite. It could be Malachite. Really hard to tell as the color changes in different light.

What do think? Does it look like your old Malachite?

Does your granite hard rock have that reinforced rib down the back of the headstock?

No, the failed Hard Rock series has straight up R9 specs. With the failed intro of the HR series I doubt Gibson reached the limits of each model. My guess is the first run was the last. They really weren't appreciated. Far too much deviation from the usual flame top finishes.

I will say the tops from this run that I've seen look far better in person. I got mine on the cheap and totally expected to send it out for a refiin immediately. After I saw it in person it grew on me.

As to sox, those are so old I seriously doubt there's any die left to migrate. But you're right, there be no worries at all with white!
