I own a few recent Premium model Tokais and quality is on par with vintage Tokai examples I've owned.
I can't comment on mid range or budget (made in China) models, however.

I would recommend reading the dedicated posts for each brand all linked at the top of the page here:http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/other-les-pauls/167868-_mij__faq_-_links.html#post3214637
and you will get some idea of characteristics, models and features for each brand, and which are most important to you.

Navigator, Bacchus and Tokai are generally considered to offer the closest specs to 50's bursts, outside of G!bson Historic + CS examples.

Those old Tokai LS-200's & Navigators that have the controls in the correct placement in regards to the tailpiece.

Best.

You have to tell that to the ObG 59R that I had :D

Here, while we're at it, lets tell it to my Burny, who proudly wears veneer,

I just replied to your post on TGP and posted a pic of my Fujigen made LQ.Perfect bookmatched two piece back, all nitro finish, long tenon and tight build quality, bone nut and real mop inlays. How much would I have to have spent to get a equivalent spec'd Gibson?More than I can afford at this point I know. Not knocking Gibby's by any means-if you can afford a Historic or custom build go for it.But if you can't you won't feel bad about it if you end up with one of these..or a Bacchus,Navigator,Tokai,Burny or Edwards, etc.

Solid bodies, craftmanship, finishing, playability, hardware, sound. All what matters. Pots on mine work full range, for 24 years, no problems ever.
