Otherwise good songs that are overplayed/over-covered/etc.

See title. What songs would you pick?

I'd have to say any of the versions of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." It's probably one of the most beautiful modern songs ever written but it and its covers are used WAY TOO MUCH and it's really cheapening a song that has made me cry almost every time I've heard it.

Another one that gets overused: "I Am The Walrus." It's not used nearly as much as "Something" or "Yesterday" but every year i spent in college there were always at least 2 bands that had their own "unique" cover of it.

Little Wing
Stormy Monday
Runaround Sue (WTF is it with bands doing this song, anyway?)

Oh, and guilty as charged on 'I Am The Walrus.' My band does it, using Spooky Tooth's version as a template. :D

Are we talking about songs that a local band would play? If so:

Free Bird
Sweet Home Alabama
Rock And Roll (Zep)
Stairway To Heaven

Around here it's anything by the Eagles or Phil Collins. You can almost quite literally not go a half hour without them being played on some station :laugh2:

I'm talking all-around overplayed, whether it's played by a little club band or over the air or in movies and TV shows.

Like "Hallelujah," I can name at least 5 shows and movies off the top of my head that have used it. It's starting to get as bad as "All Star" with the amount it's used... Except All-Star isn't exactly a "Good" song.

As far as bands up here

mustang sally, sweet home, bad moon. I could go on and on.

I will admit there are some "bar standards" I played in a band that had stuff like in memory of Elizabeth reed, and some other obscure songs that are what i call "musician" songs and not good time dance and drinking songs. You want to do it for a living or extra income you need gigs. 4 fast 1 slow was usually the lay of the land, back in the late 90s here.

Bohemian Rhapsody had a phase there for a while where the song was completely destroyed for me via overplaying. Wayne's World era.
