These damn Deluxes are giving me bad GAS. I've been burning for one of these for a long time. Always said if Gibson remade them I'd buy one.

Two of the most under-rated, under-appreciated guitarists in rock history, in my opinion. Two badasses who paired incredibly well. They're the reason I play.

:bowdown
They were huge motivation for me as well, way back. I learned from those early albums, especially Johnny The Fox and Jailbreak which i learned from start to finish.
Bad Reputation is probably my favorite.

That motivated me to get tickets to the 1977 Queen Concert(Opera Tour) at Maple Leaf Gardens,Toronto.Lizzy opened for them. The Deluxes were on full display!(I owned a '75 Cherry Deluxe at the time). I had stage left seats just off the floor with a spectacular view of the stage.Dream come true.I was also a Queen fan, but,by that time i had moved on to bands like Lizzy and Aerosmith, so Lizzy was a big a reason for going to the show.
They did not disappoint!

I saw them on the Chinatown tour (Warfield Theater, San Francisco). Just amazing.

Is there a volute like the originals?

Sadly, no. Seems they modeled them more on the early Deluxes, with a hog neck, instead of the later Deluxes with the maple neck, volute, etc. Those are the ones that I and it seems everyone else had hoped they would mimic, and the lack of the maple neck is the literally the only thing keeping me for just ordering one sight unseen. Since they messed up and did them with mahogany I need to play one first.

They are a tribute, not a reissue.

So they're like a basic generic bound body Les Paul, but with minihumbuckers. So the chassis template for the Standard 50's, 60's and Deluxe 70's will be pretty much the same.....the neck profile being the difference.

When I was about 12 years old, and starting out in guitar, a local shop had two guitars in the window in the mall: a cherry red Les Paul Standard and a gold top Deluxe. This was around '79 or '80. I know I should have drifted to the standard, but I've always been fascinated since seeing those guitars with the gold top/light mahogany finished back. And for some reason, the mini hums seemed much cooler to my uneducated eye than the full size.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm probably going to by one of these fuckers!

That's interesting...the Sweetwater blurb in the catalog they sent says "no detail was spared" to make it like the originals. Well I guess that detail was spared!

I was window shopping at local store 30th St. Guiars in NYC today, and they have a 2009 Pete Townshend signature deluxe., the one with a humbucker between the two minis. This one has a volute which I thought was pretty cool...so clearly they still know how to make them! Pretty cool guitar but the big ugly "6" decal I could probably do without. No detail spared on that model!

^ Well, thats Sweetwater.
Essentially they have minis....thats the only thing that makes them like a real 70's deluxe.
But they'd be a LOT more expensive if they had to change the entire production line setup to make them accurate. Its almost every step of the way that is different really.
But tonally (and feel wise) the pickups and neck profile are the key aspects for most players wanting to dip their toes into the Deluxe pool.

Nice guitar but I'd bet my left nut the guitar is just a Standard 50s with reworked mini humbuckers. This would have been a day one buy for me if they had a maple neck and I know Gibson can do this because they are putting maple on their tribute line.

I still might buy one but I think I'd get a little more vale with a Classic.

The valute,...the wide headstock,...the wide binding in the cutaway,...the three piece neck (hog or maple),...the pancake body,

I can live without all that....(though it would be nice to have these features)....if they just made them with a sparkle top.

Has anyone dived into the Original Collection 70's Deluxe pool yet? Let's see what you got! I'm intrigued by these.
I got one in August 2021, a Goldtop, and I absolutely love the neck pickup, but I'm having trouble dialing in a good bridge pickup sound, it's so bright, it sounds very thin to me. I've so far, just avoided using the bridge pickup, and am thinking of changing the bridge to a P90, (maybe an aftermarket that still looks like a mini humbucker?) but I love the look of the mini humbuckers! Anyway, here it is, and sorry for the bad pics in advance!

Plugging it into a big Marshall will cure that
