Hi anyone on here using the skb sc56 case , it's sort of like a gig bag, but with the insides like a hard case, they say it has the same rigid foam sides as their hard case but in a soft case format. Thought it would be interesting to see if anyone uses one as I am interested and we all know the headstock of the les paul is quite vulnerable. Thanks for reading, look forward to any replies.

For $100, you can buy a Gator Les Paul Hardshell case or an Epiphone Hardshell case.

I bought one because the brown/pink case for my 2001 LP Classic was getting pretty beat up and I wanted something lightweight with the convenience of a gig bag but still offered decent protection. It was so awesome that the next Les Paul I bought, I immediately got a second one. I freakin' LOVE those things!!!

It's the same rigid foam as their TSA approved flight case but covered in a gig bag instead of hard plastic. They weigh next to nothing, you can wear them like a backpack freeing up your hands for your amp and pedalboard, and offer more than enough protection for weekend warriors like me. When packing the van for a gig, my guitars go in the back with the PA, lights, and all my other gear with zero worries.

I want to start using my Firebird for gigs but the huuuge, heavy case is a deal (back) breaker. I'll be ordering the Firebird/Explorer model this week so I can finally rock the bird.

I've owned the SKB one for about 8 years now, no complaints. It does indeed do what it says it does: gives reasonable protection, way above of what a gig bag would provide, a bit heavier than any gig bag but lighter than a hard case. It's a reasonable compromise. I've used it to transport my #1 on buses and trains when I can't be bothered with lugging around a hard case. Mind you, the guitar fits in it TIGHT, which is good in preventing the neck or headstock moving suddenly if you ever drop it. I have never dropped mine though so I can't attest to how much protection it would give in case you actually do, but since the guitar sits in tightly with plenty of headroom fro the headstock not to crash into the foam above it I imagine it would protect it... definitely safer than a gig bag and I'd say even more than some hard cases where the guitar is all wiggely wobbly inside . To give you an idea of how tight it is, I have another LP with a Bigsby but it won't fit in the skb but it does fit fine on a Gibson hard case . My guitar has a 50s neck and fits fine, but I would even say that maybe a Bonnamassa with that crazy wide baseball bat neck might be pushing it too much.

Love the SKB soft cases as it's the perfect combination for most uses. And it doesn't destroy the walls, furniture or body work on cars if you bounce into them.
