Lets see what MLPF members are up to :) Post info and pics of whatever tonal tweaks your making right now, how, why and what possesed it.

Personally im just into a nut cutting. I were just trying to post pics and explain whats going on in them but it seems you cant upload pictures to MLPF using a smart phone, i"ll have to see if i cant get aroung that.

Then very soon i"ll be adding a 3PDT switch and LED in the Dunlop 18V 535Q wah, the old switch is cutting my signal when i rock the wah and lightly touch the switch, tried contact cleaner with lube over the past few days and it improved but still tempermental so shes getting the a new switch... there is nothing online on the 18V 535Q switch replacement so that"ll be fun and maybe useful to some.

I just finished installing a new S-Taper ICAR pot in the 535Q and more than pleased with the results. The sweep is now extremely smooth all the way through the sweet... a bit like changing from a linear guitar volume pot to a custom Audio taper. Much better, i set the gear on the rocker 1 notch back from full treble. Beautiful wah these old 18V 535Qs... they are old so often need a little love but well worth it.

So, whats on your agenda this week?

1) I'm currently rewiring a Fernandes HSS guitar for a friend.

2) I'm also rewiring a Vintage (brand) VR100 LM of my own. It's a Les Paul Special copy.

3) I'm also refinishing and rewiring an Epiphone Les Paul Junior that was given to me by a friend who just left the UK to stay in New Zealand.

4) I'm about to do a fret level on my mandolin.

I'll post pics when I have them.

contemplating re-tolexing a 1960B cab...

I bought it in 1995(ish) for $600 new from MF..
Sold it with a Valvestate 8200 to a friend in 2005 for $550...

Bought it back (the cab) yesterday for $250...same beat up condition I sold it in..
I kinda want it to look as good as the 1960AV cab I just got...and deciding if I want to split the speakers up in each cab (2 GT75's & 2 V30's in each or leave them as they are)...

I have to make up some decals for a custom dual loop pedal I bought..

Always something..

Cool... was thinking tone tweaking, modifications to your tools in order to reach a certain tone. What the mod is and why you needed to tweak! ☺

The 535Q i had been trying to find for a while now... a fully working 18v 535Q is not too easy to find amd there is a unique sound in them, smooth and juicy where most have a real vintage honk/quack... these guys are a little less funk and more of straight filter.

Just went through every magnet in a mahogany axe with a Duncan JB and the last was the winning ticket, Unoriented A5 ☺ Trying to find a nice articulated chugging tone... was sure the A8 would be the winner but it was very loose and farty! A2 was nice but a bit bright and bitey for the modern tone i have in my head... think Machine Head, Heavy tool riffs...

The stock A5 was a bit ear piercing in the high end... and a little too compressed. The UOA5 made things a lot more dynamic with a really nice response to the pick. Softer highs amd more mids... Tasty business

I just put a 50s wired harness, switchcraft switch and Jack in my epiphone les Paul studio. Got it from tonemanguitar.com who is a vendor on here. Great product. Can't wait to really play tomorrow. Neck pickup sounds like a wet blanket was taken off the amp. Added new reflector knobs too.

Installed a MSSC 50's wiring harness, SD Seth Lover Neck and Bridge pickups and a Faber ABRN bridge, BSWKIT bridge studs, TP-59 tailpiece with Tone Lock studs in my 2012 Traditional. The Faber upgrades were a huge step up in tone and sustain. The difference in the acoustic tone is incredible. I wouldn't have believed it could make this much of a difference. I'm really pleased with the SD Seth Lover's as well. A nice warm tone with that mid range honk that I love.

I was so impressed with the Faber upgrade to my Trad that I installed a Faber compensated aluminum wrap tail bridge and locking studs on my 2014 LP Junior Special to replace the cheap zinc bridge that Gibson uses. Again, an incredible increase in sustain and a definite tonal improvement.

Just been setting up my latest build. There are pretty much no archtops in LH that get imported into Aus of any brand at all. So I made a 'sort of' archtop.........really a double carve where the inside of the top wood gets carved as well as the top side. Also the sides and back are chambered to about 8mm, so it really is a very thin body overall.

I've also been refinning the top of my first ever burst clone. The carve was none too accurate (as I'd not seen the way the recurve was done) and the colour/fade was a bit plastic looking. This is much more natural, and the carve profile is a more accurate attempt.

Also I have done my first ever cold checking. I'd been using a lacquer that wouldn't check initially, as that was all that was available. Now with some of the more brittle lacquer being supplied downunder I could make a nice relic/yellowed strat.

Thank YOU for sharing your experience. I've been thinking about doing exactly that for the new SD '59's I put in my Dot! That or Short A5's.

More than welcome.

Running a mid cut on the JB loaded rig next, this one will have just inductor and resistor...maybe a cap to ground to take out a little high end but this will be aiming at crisp strat tones so ill need to cut the hell out of those low mids. Will be sure to share what i finish with.

ARandell those are beautiful! Goldie has my heart
