Hi, I'm Jerry Hayes from Virginia Beach, Va. and I'm new to this Forum and probably the oldest one here. I'll be 72 on Jan 21st and am still a kid at heart. I lived all my life in Southern California until I was 45 years old and moved to Virginia in Oct. of '85 as my wife's (now ex-wife) brother was the chief of police in Chesapeake, Va. I'd played music full time in the SoCal area for the past 22 years and didn't have any other trade to fall back on and had a couple of daughters in school. My brother in law said with his connections he'd be able to help me get a city job so I moved the family to Va. and went to work for the City of Chesapeake and started playing weekends. I've been retired for 6 1/2 years now and still play 3 to 4 nights a week with various bands. I play guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, bass and some other variations of these instruments which helps me work with different groups..... Since moving to Va. I've started collecting guitars and currently have about 34 instruments that are good enough to gig with. I'm currently the president of the Virginia Country Music Association. We have a website which is www.virginiacma.com I'm not aware of how to post song samples on the forum but you can hear a little of my playing by going to that site, click on "news" at the top and you'll see an announcement of a CD that my wife and I made to sell at our gigs. Click on that and a partial list of some of the tunes will come up and just click on the title and they'll play. Please don't be too critical as everything's a first take as I was paying for the studio time and left a lot of stuff in that I wouldn't have if someone else was footin' the bill. I used a drum machine and played all the instruments you hear.... Anyway, it's nice being on this Forum and I'm looking forward to the interaction and all the good info that's available here. I hope I can contribute something of interest from time to time......Thanks........JH in Va.
