Not exactly a NGD, but a New Post of an old guitar. Posting up this one as it is just so interesting imho. One owner, excellent condition, orig case etc.

What makes it so unusual?

1. it is highly figured mahogany. I found another on tlpf from a 2010 post of another '68 with similar figuring, and not far off from this serial... however i think it was fairly rare to use figured mahog.

2. ANOTHER unusual feature of this guitar is that it is a factory stinger. Evidentially SG stingers are rare, but they do exist. Have seen at least one (a 65) and Gruhn's has mentioned stinger SGs in the past as being rare but out there. I can see a finish flaw around the serial that it looks like they were covering. The interesting thing is that in blacklight, you can see right through the black stinger... I blacklighted the heck out of it to ensure there was no funny business when i got it.

Just a fun/clean/unusual 50 year old guitar! My other 68 is in nice overall shape, however nothing like this condition wise, however they both feel very very similar in neck size and profile. I usually like big fat neck LPs, but i really like these '68 SG necks... they did something right on these!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Gorgeous !!!
And I know what you mean with the neck of these SG's...I do love really big necks on my LP's, but for some reason my 68 SG has such a pleasant one, hard to describe !

Really nice find. I had a 68 SG Special, and still regret selling it.
That one's in super nice condition.:applause:

Well 61LPSG... gotta say that sidepull custom in your avatar is pretty darn spectacular!

Was a 'one owner' guitar... I am technically the third owner given i got it through an intermediary... came from PA. I have the owners name... just haven't had time to track him down yet.
