I think BP should be sued into bankruptcy, their assets should be sold to pay for the cost of this mess, and the men responsible for the decision to go forward with drilling in spite of the fact that they knew they had a defective BOP, with untested mods, in spite of the fact that they didn't have a plan in place to handle an emergency, in spite of the fact that they weren't following standard operating procedures and their track record of failure to follow the law on shore and off...those men should be publicly flogged, sued personally and then banished to pedophile island.

Hell yeah. And if any of those Senators who are taking campaign contributions from big oil had a brain, they'd be on board with this so they could give the drilling rights to American companies who would be more than happy to finance them. But politicians are short sighted.

Having said that, Senator Menendez is grandstanding with his bill. Care should be taken by the congress when making new laws that might make things worse. Nobody followed the existing laws and regulations, why would I expect that new laws and regulations would make things better?

Like they all do. Admittedly, BP has my sympathies in one regard - congress is changing the rules after the fact. Not that I don't believe that BP should be allowed to skate off cheaply, but changing the legal amount they're accountable for after the fact is kind of shitty.

Blame for this deal goes beyond BP. Heads should roll wherever guilt can be established. But, my part of the country DEPENDS on oil & gas, we like to work just like the rest of you. The asshats in Congress shouldn't be allowed to ruin the industry and chase jobs away from America.

Jobs won't go away. They drilling rights will eventually be given/sold to another oil company.

Action for the sake of action isn't always a bad thing. The Postman was just boring.

Might as well give it a try. Lord knows those GOP shitheads blocking the cost that oil companies are responsible for aren't coming up with any ideas other than leaving it up to all of us to suck up the costs, just like the banks.

You cant be serious. Democrats have had complete control of everything for over a year.

Hell, Obama awarded that same oil rig a safety award last year. :laugh2::laugh2:

What do you have to say about that? Want to blame the GOP for that? :laugh2:

BP should be completely shut out of this country from all operation. Hows that for a corporate apology lol.

But this goes beyond BP, its a federal government competency problem and a security failure. And guess what? The GOP hasnt had ANY power since 2006 for the most part.

Sorry man, you just cant keep blaming everything on other people. Well you can, but youre wrong. It may make you feel better but thats it.

Sure some idiots in the GOP may have blocked this, that. What does it matter.

Here are the facts if youre willing to deal with them:
*The federal government is responsible to what happens on its land. At this point in history that is the democrat-let congress and Obama's admin.
*The federal government understand this and thats why they send inspectors to make sure these rigs are safe. The Minerals Management Service is the government agency that does this (MMS).
*The MMS was required to inspect the rig EVERY month. They lied, and did not do so.
*The MMS works for the Obama admin. In fact, this is on their very own site, and I quote: "The MMS plays a key role in realizing President Obama’s and Secretary Salazar’s vision for energy security for the 21st century."

This was a federal government security failure. Not my words. Thats the words from the MMS.

The MMS (working for the Obama admin) gave the rig a safety award last year.

As you can see, a complete security breakdown from the Obama admin. This is not surprising considering the 3 failed attempts to stop terrorist attacks from happening on American soil over the last year.

The Obama admin has a security competence problem. And blaming people that havent been in control of the senate and congress (GOP) for almost FOUR years now, well, is laughable. :naughty:

Again to finish so I dont get irrational people calling me a "corporate appologist" I hate BP and think they are JUST as responsible as the Federal Government in this mess. And I think BP should finish clean up and be kicked out from operating in this country.

Phew! That was a lot! :D

You're assuming I'm a Democrat.

In the topic at hand, the GOP is blocking attempts at how much BP is responsible for. If BP doesn't pay for the mess, guess who does.

If you want to point fingers at the MMS (and you should), you might want to look at who was in charge when that agency came under fire in 2008. Then again, why it took so long to sort those jokers out is another story.

Whistleblower: Oil watchdog agency 'cult of corruption' - CNN.com

For clarity...

As an independent, I believe that both the Republican and Democrat parties are filled with shitheads. Both of them piss through money as if there is an endless supply; the only difference is that the Dems want to raise taxes to support their habit while the Republicans pretend there is no shortage of money. With a balance of power, I can only hope that they keep each other in check but, in the end, all shitheads.

Exactly. Why should we have to pick up the tab? The argument is usually, "Well, we buy oil and gas from them so we're just as accountable" except that they made a profit just like any other business selling it's wares. Toyota has to pay for the repairs on all of those cars that are screwed up so why should any other company be treated differently?

im sure that,in the end, their costs will be passed to the consumer.

Of course they will. However, they still have to compete with prices against other oil companies so they will be able to pass on only so much.
