Hey, guys I'm currently in the market for a new amp. Money's tight, but I need a new amp, my current one's a piece of crap. My budget's about $300, maybe pushed to $400. I play classic rock- anything from the Beatles to Van Halen. I don't normally use a ton of effects but sometimes the urge might strike me. Tube or solid state doesn't matter, it needs to be able to play at bedroom levels and might be gigged in the future, I'm not sure yet. I'm trying to look for used Peavey Classic 30s right now, is that a good choice? Thanks in advance.

Although I'm a Fender man ... YES, Sir, that would be a very good choice ... :applause:

the tiny terror amp head by orange, would be great. Try ebay you might find some nice fender solid state amps for a good price, cause there solid states are amazing as are there vintages and tubes.

from what ive been reading the Classic 30 seems a superb amp for the money. I guess other options are Marshall DSL, Laney LC or VC (nice amps)....

I for one am looking at the Peavey, as I tried out a DSL and the brittle overdrive didnt do it for me....

you can get a Blackheart for under 300:D

this is very true... if you have any carpentry skills you can buy the head pretty cheap off fleabay and build yourself a nice 1x12 cab and throw in the speaker of your choice... lots of good deals on speakers of fleabay as well :thumb:

hey there you go, if you think you might go with the Little Giant head you have a great father and son project! the heads go for under 200 bucks, sometimes you can find a real steal on them if you watch ebay... a 12" speaker for 25 or so, and the cash to build your cab... i say its worth thinking about :hmm: :)

That is an interesting idea, anyone try it before? Also, I'm assuming the Blackheart could keep up with a drummer?

I haven't built a cab myself but it wouldn't be hard to do... lots of folks here on mlp have done it and would be there to offer advice, there's lots of free plans on the net as well... as far as keeping up with a drummer, id say yeah lol... i can get the glass in the windows of my jamming room shaking with my little giant cranked... put a tube screamer behind it and its a monster! some folks acutally push 4x12 cabs with em!

Wow, that's funny. :D As far as the Little Giants go, how far can they be pushed without breaking up?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, just want to make sure I have the right information before I go shopping around. :D

with the stock tubes you can go a decent ways, but you do get hints of breakup... however the breakup is very nice lol... once you get to high volumes your gonna get overdrive... you can always run a clean boost though

That's true, I just want to make sure. I don't want to be trying to play some early Beatles and have a massive overdrive attack, you know? Thanks for the help again, I'll do a little looking around. :D
