I'm trimming down my pedalboard, and I've decided on either a Fulltone OCD, or a Zendrive. A friend's got the Zendrive, so ther'd be no long wait, or ridiculous price.
Which pedal do you guys prefer, and why? (Just these two--I'm easily confused)

i dont have any experience w/ the zendrive but i have the ocd and it is sweet!! i use it more as a boost w/ the volume all the way up and the drive all the way down and it is killer!

not sure, i like the vibe that goes with the zendrive, but i prefer zvex over all of them, and some of the lovepedals are nice to. OCD i never had much experience with them hah

I have both and think they compliment each other well. I mess around with about a dozen other OD pedals, but these two are the ones I keep coming back to. crunchbox, dod250-analogman, helios, TIM, BBpre, and a pile of other ones I havent looked at in a while. Zen/OCD gives you two different but cool sounds.

I have both. If I had to choose one it would be the Zendrive.

It's smooth, creamy tone is great--not a hi-gain by any means; you hear the amp and guitar. Some call it "Dumble in a box"...if that's what a Dumble sounds like I need to get me one (once I save up the $20K!).

Zen is better all-round, I think. The OCD gets me a great Marshall-y tone with lots of musical overtones.

I've had the Zendrive, the Zendrive II (got both direct from Alf), and two different OCDs (ver. 1 & 4). The Zendrive and the OCD are voiced completely different. To my ears, the Zen goes from very subtle to creamy with clear articulation and smooth sustain. The OCD is geared towards the Marshall sound, with a strong broad crunch. The Zen and COD are both very dynamic and respond very well to volume changes on the guitar. My opinion is that the OCD works better if you have at least some amount of overdrive happening in the amp, and the Zen can be happy with no overdrive or all overdrive.

If you're going with just one or the other, I think you have to ask yourself "what ballpark do you want to play ball in?" If you don't want to venture far from the Fender voicing, go with the Zen. If you want the British crunch and sustain, go with the OCD.

IT'S YOUR CHOICE.

Well said. Since I have to type 1 handed I tend to keep my answers short. :D

ahhhh theres too much hoopla and hype with the OCD. ive had mie since 05

sure its a great pedal built like a tank but it takes too much tweaking and i find it sounds better at 15 volts LP mode. Much more harmonics then at 9 volts

HP mode is too much in your face

think of the OCD a lions roar and the ZD as an aggressive purr

all imo after 3 1/2 years of ownership
