I sent this link out to a couple of guys in Sedalia, MO, at Backwoods Guitar. They do refinishes. Here in the next two months or so, I'll probably run my black '08 Traditional up there and have them re-do it like this.

That just looks great, man.

Awesome end result, and there is something special about a 55 with PAFs in it :)
Looking at the husk did someone in the past try to make it a 55 BB ?

Also are there any pics from the past before it was turned into a husk?

Many thanks for sharing - fantastic work!
thanks:)
yes i also guess that the previous owner wanted to add multiply custom binding.
unfortunately there is no pics of the original condition..

Why was the back of the headstock painted ?
p.s. there is no neck brake or something like that, if this was your actual question

Absolutely love this guitar and the black top. Awesome job!

I have a 53/54 gold top with no gold on the top anymore. Always wanted to paint the top black. This guitar is definitely pushing my in that direction again. See my avatar.

Magnificent! Can I just ask......why didn't you make it a Goldie again?

i just dislike refinished goldtops. there is nothing worse to me than a fresh finished goldtop. artifitial aging is also ugly imo. i love nothing more than old beaten up goldtops. but refin, not with me. if i would be a dealer i would put a tunomatik and do a gt refin just to make more money on a 55/57 conversion. but i´m not. i found, restore and saved it and i did my dream guitar of it because i´ll keep it for ever :thumb:
I would have done the same. I'm not sure what it is about a '50s black-top wraptail with dual humbuckers, but it's always been sort of a dream of mine. Still drooling over this one.

This guitar with Grovers and a cherry back would be my perfect Les Paul in every detail–stinger included. I'd take this over a bunch of 'bursts.

Incredible rescue. Ended up looking better than the day it was bought. Blacktops > goldtops.

your avatar looks awesome as it is. one of the reasons i painted the top was because it was aboused. a natural/burst finish wouldnt work. the other reason is of course because i love blacktops :)
