hi folks
so here is the deal. i asked alex if he could wind a set of his paf replicas with a pair of real long rough sandcast paf magnets i had (obviously A5 from 1959 or 1960). of course it was not a problem.
he wound them a little hotter, neck 8.2k and bridge 8.6k and he did his magic again, so those paf´s sound simply ridiculous!
killer killer killer tone! still recognisable wizzies with all real paf goodness is connected with (transparent, open, clear, smooth, whistling high end complexity, string atriculation, dynamic, clean up, compression, character etc) but a bit more snotty and edgy and...i dont know, i can´t describe it.. but i just love them!
he also wrote a nice certificate that he custom wound that set on real paf magnets. nice nice. thans again alex!
i installed them in my all time nr.1, a 94 R9. she was till before couple months all original but then i decided that life is too short to dont enjoy gear at his best so i broke the solder joints. she was the best sounding lp i ever had and one of the 3 best i ever played. her wood has so much soul, complexity and mojo
with those wizz paf´s she sounds just like a real burst...a good real burst. it was defenitely the right decision. to the heck with collectibility and mind queens. tone wins!
i also ordered some wizz parts. as well killer! replicated by using vintage correct materials and specs etc.
here is how alex makes his parts:

also i changed the electronics. i used crazyparts cts tvt pots (30% curve, closest thing to 50´s centralabs) with values 2x 526K for volume and 2x 520K for tone. also nos military spec k40y-9b special issue pio caps.
enjoy:
the magnets
the pickups
the geetar
the parts
pots and caps
