Just picked up a Wampler Ego Comp. I like it :thumb: Very tweakable. Enables you to put some life back into a compressed tone. Very happy with it & worth the $$$. Wampler never disappoints.

HNPD!

I really wanted the Ego - I did - but I really needed a warm darker compressor with my amps. The Ego is really bright. That's the reason I went with the Keeley. If I was using Vox/Marshalls or even Tweed Fenders I would have got the Ego. But with my Blackface Fender amps it is just a bit too bright from what I've read.

I can't really say how it stacks up to others. I really don't have much exp with comp pedals. I have one Maxon comp, nice but this Ego looked a little more tweakable. I wanted to brighten things up a bit. It does the job very well. Now, my sights are on the Faux Tape and Reverb. I don't really use either at all. Not sure if I can put them to use and justify spending the $$$. The pedal freak in me says buy them, the musician in me says, for what? We'll have to see....

HNPD! I don't own any, but according to everyone I've heard, you can go wrong with Wampler pedals. I haven't heard much about the ego, big name compressors seem to dominate for the most part, but I'm sure it's great. How does it compare to the Maxon? Other than being more tweakable.

Also, everyone needs a good tape echo or reverb :D. If not so much to have the "echo" or "reverb" sound so much as to add a little bit of depth or fatness to your tone whenever you feel like it, which to me is always a plus. It isn't as versatile as the Strymon El Capistan, but it's definitely a great pedal. Watch a video or two of it and the El Cap, I know the El Cap demo vid made me scream that I want one since it pretty much does every tape echo sound ever made, and then some.

yawny, wow that Strymon El Capistan is outstanding !! That has got me thinking :hmm: I like that. As far as reverb, I have a Boss FRV-1 that does the job nicely. So I don't know if $200.00 on a reverb is wise for me. I really didn't even need the comp since I have the Maxon. The Ego allows me to tweak the attack & tone which is nice. The Maxon sounded nice as well, and only two knobs to worry about (less is more sometimes). The Strymon El Capistan has me thinking though. I only see one used on the bay. I'll have to look into it a bit more. Thanks for the info.

I know right!? It sounds so good, Its really unreal. Personally, I'm the same, reverb isn't a huge concern for me, and a good delay or echo can add the same depth as reverb can. I can see how the Ego would be an advantage, especially with the attack knob, since that can really affect your overall sound.

I'm glad you like what you hear from the El Cap, it's probably the most versatile tape echo out there. I mean tape age? Number of heads? So many options.
