My SD-1 quit working here lately so I gutted the case and am going to probably buy a MIJ when I can.

I did the "Clean Boost" mod to my fairly new DS-1 and not only did it work as advertised, but now I actually USE the pedal instead of just letting it gather dust.

Besides, I just LOVE tearin' shit apart and modding things!

I enjoy modding things too. Maybe not as much as you, but that's ok.

I found mine for under a hundred bucks. . .I think It was $75 but my memory is a little fuzzy.

I just got one of these this week due to all the buzz, and I agree they are great. As far as I know, mine is totally stock(eta: Just popped it open and it is). I did a head to head vs. my analogman Prince of Tone, and the SD-1 has less bass and a brighter sound, more drive available and a nice sounding breakup that responds well to picking dynamics, or volume adjustments on the guitar. As a different flavor/backup/inexpensive why not pedal, it's great. You guys talking about it were right

I picked up a MIJ recently too, can't remember the price but it wasn't too bad. Thats the one I modded - really great pedal now

Try selling ur amps and throwing a deposit on a $5000 rig just before you cook your car engine...painfull!
