Yeah, I used to get that a lot. Unfortunately, we both have the same hair-style today.

are you still playing too, like he is?

Guess that's all that counts. Although I suppose the money would be nice too. :thumb:

BTW Nice looking guitar! Like the mods too!

Still playing around the house some. Mostly learning how to work on guitars. I just finished refretting this guitar and made a new bone nut. When I removed the original nut and found that it was PLASTIC, I was so disappointed.

I did what every other Ace Frehley fan did back in the 1970s. I put a Dimarzio Super Distortion at the bridge and their PAF at the neck. Man, that was almost 40 years ago! Thanks.

Ok, school a newb...

I would have never thought to use a pa head for guitar!

I've used guitar and bass amps for PA in a pinch....

I thought the whole tube amp thing was the final do all and be all, so I'm curious. I've seen other setups similar using PA heads. Was this a common practice?

Makes sense because I see the POD. That's handling the amp sounds.
Just wondering if HiWatt PA's shared a sound with their amps? Same guts, etc.?

I had a 74 DR103 for years.
pickeed the DR112 PA up a week after I sold the Custom 100.
They are both very similar in sound.
The transformer are the same.No mid contol on the PA,but you get more inputs and an effects loop.

#617 is mine, a left-handed '79 LP Custom. Back then, "everybody" was replacing the stock pickups with Dimarzio pickups. I still have the original ones in a box in the closet.

I special-ordered this guitar from LaSalle's Music in West Hartford, CT.

Love the sounds I get from it!

PS: I bought the SG back in '77. One of our IBM reps (Beaumont, Texas) ran a music store. He gave me a very good deal on the guitar. It has been a workhorse over the years.

Rare indeed, 81 .....

I'm wondering if that's a ground wire coming off the bridge and attaching to the jack plate?

Or is it just an artifact in the photo....

OR is it a secret tonz mod? A pure bypass mod that channels sound from the bridge straight to the output jack! No load, no pots, pure electricity!

Both are nice BTW!! :thumb:

It's the only one I have ever seen. I was originally all worked up to order a Tobacco Sunburst, but at the last minute switched to Silver. So glad I did!

Thanks! Your first guess is correct. We were having some grounding issues and I was trying some different scenarios to see if I could get a cleaner sound. Putting the clips on it negated almost all of the ground issue. I've never taken them off.

Both are "Norlin era" Gibsons. Both are dynamite sounding. The LP has Dimarzio's in it - with switches to let me run the halves in and out of phase with each other. (Had them put in back in 1980).

Not a secret tonez mod??....:(
Bummer! :D

There are guys here that can help you fix that and put it back inside.

And they can do it from here! :thumb:

Yeah, they're THAT good! :applause:

Wait, a studio with binding? Am I missing something?

The original Studios had binding...
AND had full width body..only difference between a standard were dot inlays, and Gibson decal on headstock instead of pearl inlay.
There was even a Studio Custom model, with 7 ply binding and gold hardware:

Once again, thank you....

It strikes me funny that they call the Norlin years a period of cost cutting cheapness, but yet they were still BINDING the lesser models???

Yep. "Studio Standards."Ive had several. This one is pretty cool because of the factory kahler. You wont see many of these. The above mentioned "Studio customs" are cool too. Havent seen one of those in quite a while.

My 82 had a Kahler at some point in its past.

Whoever removed it did a pretty good job filling the hole and painting on the head stock.

Just a little imprint on the top where it sat on the wood.

Just visiblebelow the light flash.

Kris, I just pulled my '87 SS out to verify and the body is indeed a little thinner than my '09 Standard faded

C'mon! Was there ever any doubt?

Kris Ford is to older Gibsons what Kris Kringle is to toys. :hmm:

Santa has the land of misfit toys, Kris has the land of misfit Norlins. :D
