So it turns out I have another Les Paul from this period. My other one being #610

It is a Les Paul Custom from 1979 and according to the shop where I bought it the finish is not that common. It is called Pearl White. I have check around on the forum and I haven't seen any so far. But I just joined. Maybe someone has some info about why it is rare. It really glows when the light hits it. Hard to capture on the iPhone though...

It has the flattest radius of all my Les Pauls and other Gibsons. Only one other guitar comes close and that is my Ibanez JEM. Is the flat radius common for the Les Paul Customs? It has been refretted at some point before I bought it. I think the nut has been changed too and I am suspicious about the chrome knob on the pickup selector. Otherwise it seems to be all original. I still have the shops notes on the back and it says Weight 5040g and Pots 4x1377824, PU 2xGibson Epoxy filled.

I got it setup with .010 but the action is almost too low so I might have to look into that.

Anyways enjoy.

I have one from 83. It is in my avatar. Mine is pretty yellow from all the years in bars. Not sure if this image link will work, but these are both 83s and counted much earlier in this thread.

Nice guitars! Are they modified with the locking tremolo or did you buy them like that? With that single coil on the custom it must be a very versatile guitar. Fun fun fun! I got two Floyd Rose myself. An Ibanez JEM FP77 -88 it is the one with the floral pattern. It plays great. A real speed machine. The other is a white Gibson Explorer. It looks like the -84 one. I'm a huge Hetfield fan so I just had to have one. The quality of the tremolo is quite cheap compared to the Ibanez though.

I'm also a Mesa fan too. I used to have Laney VC50. Basically because I couldn't afford anything else at the time. That amp was just too loud and unforgiving. A very cold tone. I invested in a Mesa Lonestar Special 2x12" a few years ago and wow what an amp. It brought life in all my guitars and the bluesy sound I'm into is just right. I love it!

Both guitars actually came with factory Kahlers that I just didn't dig. I had the Floyd put on the White Custom. My #1 since 1984. Someone I knew bought the tobacco standard and had the same guy put a Floyd on it because he liked mine. Then he sold it to me. It happens to be an 83 as well. It is a great guitar. Mesa has been my go to amp since about 86 with my first one being a Mark III. The Lonestar is a sweet AMP.

Very nice Custom! Very shiny! I like the little pin-up not very obvious at first.

Thx. I put that pin-up decal on (comes off easily with warm water). She's a bit shy and barely dressed, hiding behind the pickguard... :naughty:

Nice! Reminds me of Eliot Easton's red LP...well at least a right-handed, un-DiMarzio'd version. Love that color!

Thank you! Me too!

And back at you! Beautiful piece you have there as well.

Turns out the 'pre-historic' period has become an obsession of mine. Love anything around that time period. (Not that they aren't ALL great):)

I remember it jumping out at me from a rack full of guitars after just walking into the music store 34 years ago.

I wasn't even looking to buy. Just an Army guy with a weekend to kill so I thought I'd waste some time in a local music store.

Bam! I was smitten! Never saw anything so purdy (to me) in my life. :wow:

I couldn't even play a lick back then, what the heck would I do with a new $2800.00 guitar that I could neither play properly or afford on Army pay???:laugh2:

Thanks to this forum, I now know it was a SEVERE case of GAS! LOL!!:)

Makes me think we should start a 'solid color' Les Paul love thread
Sunbursts just seem to get more of the love around here....

#614 I believe. 1978 Deluxe closet classic! Traded my Tele that I've had for sale a couple months now.:thumb: Crazy good condition. Better than most of the guitars hanging new in stores. Just happened to be my birthday as well.oo

#550. 1978 Les Paul Custom that I ordered from the factory with nickel hardware instead of the usual gold. I hadn't had it long when I replaced the black plastic with cream, the black top hats with gold speed knobs, and put a DiMarzio Super Distortion at the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF at the neck. The pictures are from 1981 and 1982. Oddly enough, I don't have any recent pictures and I currently have it stripped of hardware and in the process of replacing the original frets. When I get it back together, I'll post some pictures.
