Nomenclature Question

[Cozmik Cowboy]

I have heard my fellow guitar geeks refer to the pickup that immediately preceded - and, on the LPC, briefly cohabited with - the P-90 as an "Alnico" or "Staple" p/up; can anyone tell what Gibson called them? Do they have an official name?

The 1956 catalog calls them "powerful magnetic type pickups", specially designed and engineered for this model.

And the linked catalog raises another question for me - were they ever on anything except the LPC & the Super 400 CES?
