That's what made me look for that list. I remember seeing that episode when it aired. There were a few of Letterman's top 10 lists that made me laugh enough to remember them after 30 years, and Upper Mexicans was the one from that list that stuck in my head.

The character is loosely based on my cousin-in-law from California so Yankee doesn't seem to fit. He came up here as a draft dodger and met my cousin and married her and took her back to California. (Right now I'm using "dodger" as a placeholder but I don't want to be insulting lol)
by now he is probably old enough to be a "codger"
