Id have to play it first, otherwise its just an ornament.

Didnt some of the 59s sound ... off. Plus if it had a dead pickup or something how would you deal with that? not gonna get the soldering iron out and bung a SD in.

That picture is so cool! I'm new to learning about how much a 1959 Les Paul goes for. My interest was raised after Joe Bonamassa said that he paid a lot for his, but didn't say how much. Its very interesting that this particular model is so expensive. I feel good for 'grandpa' if he's still alive or his children to have been able to provide them with something of so much value, monetarily, historically and spiritually.

But I can hardly get around this question, "Does it go fast as a Ferrari?" I'll cover your Stradivarius replies by asking, "Does it go fast like a F1 McLaren?"

I'm not saying its not worth it, but come on really? I guess some people really have more money than they know what to do with.........

(OK, I'd really love to buy it too : )

No, but should sound a lot better though!

having more money to most of those people is just pushing the limits, wishes might stay the same more or less. The average guy gasses for a R9 and is frisking the web all over again, checks out stores and the used market to finally shoot his object of desire for 3,5 k. Happy he is, loving his aquistion that he saved money for for some months/years.

Rich guy has the same GAS but is checking the higher, or let's call it more expensive league of instruments, but it's a guitar at the end of the day. Maybe he has to do the same amount of working hours to achieve it, only getting paid better.

And i am sure it has to be a pain in the ass to simply drop some cash on anything you want to have that doesn't punch one severe hole into your purse or you would rather don't feel the money has gone because it is nothing in relation to the remaining money on the accounts.

Sure, i'd like to have more money, but is beeing rich desirable? Beeing able to afford almost anything you want? A water tap is a water tap be it brass, iron or pure gold. I don't envy superrich people. Not one bit

One has to be happy with the things he can afford, otherwise they are not valuable to the specific person

(OK, I'd really love to buy it too : )

Description: 100% original "Burst" from Gibson's best year... 1959! Large frets, big neck, double-white PAFs, never a Bigsby, a little flame, a little color, and tone that kills. This guitar was purchased over 20 years ago by my close friend, from the family who's father of Grandview, Missouri had owned it since 1960. They never changed a thing... and since then, neither has anyone else. No repairs, no breaks, no overspray.... The wiring has never been disturbed, the PAFs never uncovered, the frets and pots never changed. Man, it feels good to say that that about any guitar, let alone a '59!

Then how do you know they are double white? :hmm:

The mystique of a real '59 is a powerful thing. Although, I have to wonder if those questioning the beauty of this guitar would make the same statements if they owned it.....:hmm:

I care nothing for any cold, objective reasoning behind it - that is an absolutely beautiful guitar no matter what.

So if we get 175 MPLers to each kick in $1000, we can each have it for two days out of the year. Woohoo!!

I'm in, where do I send the $$$?

Peace

Rex

EDIT: We're gonna need fewer MLP members with more money, we can't teleport the guitar to each other. If we actually did this, FedEx and UPS would make $50k a year shuttling it around.

Yup, very much like going out with a super model only to find out she's no good in bed.

OK, I'll say it. What makes this guitar so "beautiful"? Yeah, it's a '59, so we are supposed to know that it's drool-worthy, but is it really "beautiful" enough to comment so much on the looks?

I could pick out a hundred pics on MLP of sub $4000 guitars that are equally (or more) "beautiful".

Am I missing something? Is it more beautiful, just because it's more valuable? Am I discounting its "beauty", due to me realizing it's unobtainable? (No, I see lots of beauty in things I'll never possess!)

Its beautiful in the very slight flame and the years of Love it has had

there is one real flamey 1960 burst on g-base for the same money which might be considered more beautiful: 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst > Guitars : Electric Solid Body - Emerald City Guitars | Gbase.com

I'm missed this a couple weeks ago, wow that's a beautiful guitar! Can I say something? I've bought two flametops in the past year. I always wanted a Les Paul, so I finally got one and now two. I noticed how you guys seem to get a little excited of seeing different flames not sure I got it though, but now I do. I'm beginning to see the different nuances in each guitar. Its like they each have their own soul almost. A good flame is a good flame. Can't wait for mine to age!

I wonder if EVERY original 59 is so great as every one expects. I do suspect there were dogs back then as well

as far as looks go, I like this one better:

No Color. I know several people who have played this guitar and they all say it's very nice.
