Today I made a stop at Sam Ash & got myself a new 2013 SG standard. Nice chunky for an SG neck. I have been without one for a few years now & have always wanted a white one so I had to pull the trigger, also being an Iommi fan didn't help either. The tag says it has 490r & 498t pickups but when I pulled them to take a look it actually has 57 classics, needless to say I'm pretty happy about that. They also through in a set of Schaller strap locks for me & a set of DR pure blues. I also rewired it 50's & put PIO caps in it. The fretboard was pretty dry & it took 3 times oiling it to get it right, soaked the oil in immediately the first 2 times & was still dry & it darkened up quiet a bit. I'm pretty stoked to finally have my white SG, time to go rock out for a while.

So after a few days I feel this is the best SG I have had & I have had at least 20 of them over the years. The neck feels right, I like the 57's so far & it looks perfect. I have gone over it from top to bottom & can't find a single flaw or QC issue anywhere. The big test is tomorrow night with the band.

I played it with the band last night & couldn't put it down. It sounded great & the guys all loved it, the 57's really do sound good.

I have a white one too, those were advertised as having smaller necks than previous years standards, mine has a neck that's probably on the chunkier side within the 60s/slimmer or whatever neck profiles. I put a 57 classic on the bridge, but lately I've been thinking of going with EMG's 57/66, see how they sound in the SG.
