Man, doesn't the heel of that guitar have a vintage profile to it? I don't see any of the curvy "V" that is on most LPs these days. Interesting.

Custom Shop did start in 1993, definitely not in '04. There are hundreds of reissues from the mid to late 90s that attest to that (incl. three of my own!). Is it common for Studios to have a maple cap? I don't think it is uncommon at all, but...
Is it common for Studios for have ebony boards? Probably this is why it has the decal...and that it was made in what was the fledgling Custom Shop.

What a sweet deal BTW.
Custom shop started in the early 90's
there are lots of CUSTOM SHOP guitars from the 90'S and that was the logo they used

Thanks for all the kind words guys ... here is the message I got back from Gibson on the Custom Shop Edition decal ....

Hi Gary,

Thanks for writing! This is consistent with a ’93 Les Paul Studio Lite in Trans Amber. This was a part of a special run introduced in late 1991 for the Studio Lite model that was available in Trans Red and Trans Amber finishes with gold hardware (these were the only spec deviations from the regular production run). The stamp on the back is simply a reference to the fact that these were a special run of guitars- this was prior to there being a physical Custom Shop.

I don’t have a spec sheet for this particular run available, but I’ve attached our specs for the regular production model Les Paul Studio Lite for you.

Thank you for the inquiry.

Best regards,
