Picked a TV Yellow Special last week at my local Sam Ash. Very impressed. Fit & Finish is excellent and the neck (50s) is the best neck I've felt on an Epi in a long time. P90s rock and genuinely sound like good P90s (doesn't mean I won't eventually swap in some aftermarket ones, but that's just because I am an inveterate tinkerer).

Anyway, when I first saw these in all the winter NAMM vids back when the world was still normal (LOL!) I knew I'd have to have one. Finally got it!

Got mine June 26. I left for a month a week later. Came back home for two weeks and now again I'm away for another month. I set it up played it for all those 3 weeks, but I have yet to change the strings for my prefered gauge (9's) and treat the fretboard. When I come back, it's like NGD again :)

I changed out my tuners to Kluson locking revolution ones...but then I noticed some neck dive and put the stock ones back on...the stock tuners are so great...I'm glad I went back to stock.

Neck dive on the Special ? Those tuners must have been massive !

no, not at all...they were a direct fit and you could hardly tell a weight difference when holding the individual tuners, but my particular Special is only 7.25 lbs and the difference in weight was just enough to cause it. It didn't just "bang...to the floor"...it would just slide out of reach a bit and I didn't like that. So I put the stock tuners back on and put a new set of strings on, doing the old "manual lock" method, like so:

Like the rest of the 2020 Epiphone lineup, there is definitely no NEED to upgrade anything.

The graph tech nut on my Gibson version (stock on both Gib and Epi) has sold me on this type of nut material. FWIW- unless they are damaged, it is almost never the tuners that cause tuning issues, it is almost always the nut.

I don't think I have hardly had to tune my Gibson Special since I got it in December, just fine tuning when going between drop D and standard. It is always in tune when taking it out of the case. Impressive.

Enjoy your Specials, chicos.
