Bought this Greco 1978 EG800 Custom Cherryburst from a U.S. Seller for what I thought was a fair price. I knew it wasn't going to be in mint condition, but due to their poor packaging the neck got one of these...

I've obviously started a return on eBay, but if they offer a partial refund should I take it, if so how much? I paid $1,025 total, shipping included. I'm trying link a video I shot as well showing where the damage came from possibly. It was packed in a Gibson HSC, but with no padding anyway behind the case or the guitar. I think it took a couple drops and came down on that neck.

Here's the seller's photo of the neck. Hard to tell since the damage was on the other side, but one would think if it was damaged before shipping you would mention it.

You do realize this guitar has a three piece neck?

Try to get a better closeup of what you’re saying is a crack. So going up vertically from where the bad finish spot?

The bad finish spot is from the cracking and that's about where it starts. That's the impact point. It travels all the way to base from what I can see. Here's another shot.

That's in the finish only... it's gonna be hard to prove that was due to poor packaging. The angle isn't even shown in the original photo. Probably something I would chalk to up age if I bought that. It's a pretty common place for a finish crack - never really effects anything.

I appreciate the feedback. This is my 2nd Greco and these transactions never seem to go smoothly with these guitars. I've bought 4 Gibsons in a row online without issues....yes..Gibsons. Do you think I should just chalk it up to age and cancel this return? I'm not trying to scam anyone, but for what I paid I expected a better packing job and a neck without that cracker.

It's up to you. The guitar is 44 years old. It's been around the block and halfway around the world. There just aren't that many case queens when you buy these older ones. I personally like the mojo of the older ones. It adds character and it's part of their story.

Agree with above ... it looks like a finish crack only. Maybe it did take a pop but I would say if it was in a decent hard case the seller did due diligence.

I cannot get over how good my 1980 EG 500 is. Easily one of the best single cuts I have ever owned ... and that spans about 20 USA and historic LPs. Enjoy that one.

Thanks for the feedback. Worked it out with the seller. The nut on the truss rod is also stripped, which I can fix, but kind of pain. Here's some pics of those smoking PU-2 pickups and their respective cavities

I do also think it's a poly crack for what it's worth without seeing it in person.
