Picked one of these up from guitar center a couple weeks ago. Now that I've had some time to mess around with it I can safely say not only is it a great guitar, but it's a much better guitar than the original it's based off of, after owning an original for a little bit and also a Harmony H15. Hot take, I know, but they did a lot right with this one.
The big changes are a standard set tune-o-matic bridge instead of a floating rosewood bridge, bigsby instead of the dreadful silvertone tremolo (the hagstrom trem on the Harmony Sillhouette though is still fantastic), a more fender-style C shaped profile instead of the big chunky necks on the older ones, and instead of silverfoils you get these custom wound single coils that are apparently wound like the old silverfoils. I can't do a back to back comparison with the older guitar, but they sound pretty much the same to me. But other than that it's mostly the same as the old one.
I loved my old 1478 and Harmony H15. But the fact of the matter is that while they are fantastic sounding and feeling guitars, they are 50-60 year old cheaply built mass produced department store guitars and finding one with minimal issues is really hit or miss. This really hits the sweet spot of being close enough to the original but with enough modern twists to ensure its longevity and stand up to other guitars in its price range.
Anyway, I also just got a new camera and have been messing with lightroom so here's a few pictures.
