On the subject of Gibson P90s, do they come with the same 300k vol/500k tone pots as their humbuckers?

I have no idea. I've been more than pleased with the P90's so far. I guess, like mdubya, I haven't done anything but play with the pickup height.

That, and I top wrapped

One thing I noticed is that a lot of the '50's P-90 Goldtops have the pole screws screwed way out. I usually run mine screwed as close to all the way in as I could get away with. I found with the pick up too high it was pretty raunchy, more than I wanted. So I lowered the pick up to clean up some of the raunchiness and raised the pole screws to get back some of the attack and output.

That is where I am right now. The raised poles seems to give each string nice separation and clarity. I could be fooling myself, but as long as I am fooled I am happy. :D

Besides the tuners and knobs, I also replaced the pots with 500K CTS and caps.

I have to say, after a few days of playing it, this guitar is amazing. Not a single issue with tuning, or "ping-ing", the frets are immaculate. I have it setup exactly to my liking, straight neck, low action. The sustain is remarkable too, I dont know if that is common for SGs (the ones Ive played recently didn't seem anywhere near as impressive) when i bought it toyed with the notion of having a wrap-around bridge put in, but for now that is no longer necessary. I haven't had time to put together some sound clips, but I plan too :thumb:

I went down to the local Long & McQuade to see about picking up a bass (today they were having a special, 1/2 off rentals)

I wish the L&M stores around here had their rental stuff on sale.

they dont? I assumed it was a store-wide thing. I've had alot of fun renting gear for a month at a time, sometimes you need to spend that much time with gear to decide how, or if, you like it. I had 2 different SGs for a month each before I decided on my LP. I had a Class 5 for 3-4 months before I realized I wanted more features. In either case, spending the money to rent it saved me from having to buy it, then realize I didnt want it. Ill still be going back for a bass next paycheck, they had alot there and even at full price, most were $20 a month or less.
