I got this "plain top" 2014 R8 the day before yesterday. I've changed almost all of my LPs to historics and after I got my R9 ( http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/historics-reissues/339737-ngm-new-guitar-day-last-month-r9-aged.html ) I needed an R8 to fill a hole. I've never had a guitar with such a thick neck. It's .930 to 1.01 with fairly huge shoulders. Not sure how well I like the shoulders, but the sound is amazing.

I know its just another Lemonburst, but I love the color. I tried to capture it but most of the pictures look too orange/tea. In person it fades to greenish rather than tea. The photo where its being played (my kid) is pretty close to the color.

It's light at 8lbs 1oz, and sounds amazing. Still getting used to the thicker necks.

And finally, the R8,R9 and R0 hanging out. The Goldtop 57 didn't come for the photo.

Nice collection and HNGD!! I have a washed cherry and a lemon R8. Fantastic guitars and best bang for the buck up until this year. My lemon has a R9 quality top and its a "plain top" just like yours! Enjoy them. I know the neck is big at first (I actually love it) but give it a chance I think you will become more comfortable with it over time. Congrats!!, Brian

Congrats. Once you get used to that big neck it will be hard to put it down. Good luck,

Wow. It's really different. I've found that the larger necks let me play longer without hand pain, but I play solos a bit better on a thinner neck. The neck shapes are exactly as expected, my R0 is really thin but with big shoulders, R9 is largish but very round and smooth with minimal shoulders, the R8 is huge with giant shoulders. I'm actually having trouble getting used to the R8, but its still new. The R9 is AMAZING, and the R0 is much harder for me to play than it used to be. The R9 is my favorite right now.

Looks great.:thumb: What pups do you have in the R8 & R9?

The R8 has stock Custom Buckers and they're awesome. The R9 had CB and they sounded dark and muddy and I could NOT balance them in the middle position because the neck was too hot. I tried changing pots. i had 4 new 525k+ historic spec pots that were dated a couple months before my guitar was shipped. :naughty: Not enough change. I put the CB covers on a pair or BB 2 and 3 that I liked and !tada! It's perfect.

So CB and BB2&3 respectively.
