First off, Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating and hope everyone has a great day!
Now that we got the turkey out of the way, let's get to the meat and potatoes. lol Picked up this unbranded SG for cheap on the hunch it was an Edwards SG. The only Edwards I have is a 2013 E-SG-90LT2/P Comparing the two, It has the same body shape, deluxe marking on the tuners, control cavity and shielding, truss rod route, gibson style flangeless tailpiece bushings. The control cavity cover and truss rod cover are a direct swap. Came with a Gotoh tailpiece and bridge and it has MIJ full-size pots. It feels like it's built well and neat like my Edwards SG. All these things make me think it's a legit Edwards.
However, it has a poly finish after I tested it with acetone. It looks like most Eddies come with the Lacquer taste finish nowadays and only the older guitars had poly if I'm not mistaken, not sure. I was hoping that since I saw it had slotted pickup height adjustment screws it would have some ok older MIj pickups in it, however it looks like it has korean made pickups in it. Two neck pickups in fact and possibly made by Rosewill. Haven't found almost anything on the part numbers off the baseplates on them. They look like they are original to the guitar. The last kicker is the wood, It has very little character and figuring unlike normal mahogany and the guitar is 1.4 lbs lighter than my Edwards SG special, pretty substantial difference. That makes me think it's made and painted in China with some sort of Luan or Nato and finished with Japanese parts. I have a Chibson Sg as well (Don't ask lol) and the wood looks similar to it but the feel and build quality feels like my other MIJ guitars. Thanks for any info!
