So this guitar popped up on a forum I frequent.
Turned out the guy selling it was local.
I gave him an offer based on the fact it's not very original, and he accepted.

It's got a stamp in the Electronics cavity that says Mar 28 1977.
The serial starts with 00 so that's a 76 serial right? Pots are dated 1377647 so that's also late 76.
Guess it layed around the factory for a while until they got it assembled?

Anyway, this guitar is Lovely.
Plays like butter, fretless wonder for sure.

The guy I bought it from got it in 1982, and played it until the late eighties.
He then got tired of the Wine red finish and stripped the top and neck. I think the back and sides are still original.
Then it layed around until 1997 when he had it refinished cherryburst by a shop in Stockholm.
The inspiration was obviously Ace Frehleys Budokan guitar.

It then layed around the guys house, hardly ever getting played as I understood.

It was advertised as all pickups being switched to Classic 57s, but when I got it home I noticed the middle seems to be an original T-top.
Sounds great anyways.

I Think it was a good buy, really happy about this one.

That was absolutely right on the money, fair to both parties.

Nice guitar....is it factory 3 pup?

Real sharp, good score. The re-fin looks legit. I was worried it was going to look like someone's DIY craft project before I saw the pics. It looks great.

Congrats!

Thanks,

Yeah, luckily the luthier shop that was used for the re-fin is probably one of the best in Sweden.
The finish still looks great after 22 years.

Pots are made by a separate company......who will have a portion of time between manufacture and selling onto a customer. Then Gibson will get the stock in and use them somewhat randomly.

Its not unusual to see 6 months from the pot manufacture date to them put in a guitar.

I ordered one pickup cover just to see if it would fit.
Gonna be ordering two more, fits perfectly.

Also noticed the T-top is not original to the guitar, it's dated 1979.

Maybe leave the bridge one uncovered?
Will look nice with the new covers anyway. :)

It's starting to take shape.
Still waiting for two gold covers.
I have black surrounds for the pickups but one will have to be modified to correct height for the middle pickup.
Took quite a while to reshape the pickuard for the 3-pup configuration.

So, I was looking at the guitar and came to the conclusion that I made a mistake.

it just doesn't look as good with the black plastic.
So I put the cream back on there.
Just gonna go with cream plastic and gold covers for the pups.

Might look in to some super distortions but I dread the soldering.

I'm sure between a set of regular height and historic height sets, you could get a decent stagger.
