I decided to purchase an Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60's guitar. I am going to change some things once I get it and I am wondering if the tuners are Chrome or Nickel, or does it even matter? Are the Stop Piece and Bridge Nickel or Chrome as well as the Pickup Covers?

I picked up a Faber Bridge with new Faber Posts and the Grover Keystone Locking Tuners which will be here a few days after I receive my new Les Paul. I usually do a string change right away when I get a new guitar, but I will just play the crap out of her until the new parts arrive.

Well Considering I am putting some locking tuners on my new girl, if the fretboard needs some oil, I can put the new strings on, and they will work fine when I change to the locking tuners.

I like an Ebony guitar, can't go wrong with a high gloss black guitar. haha

I wanted an Iced Tea originally if I was going to get one of these, but you're look at May to June to get one. I am very happy landing a new in the box Ebony at this point and really looking forward to getting her tomorrow. Elizabeth the 2nd. :naughty:

Yeah I sometimes wish i had gone with the ebony color when i bought mine. They only had 2 colors in stock when i got mine last yr the ebony and the Bourbon Burst. I did the faber kit on this guitar with the grover locking tuners as well. I wound up putting a Obsidian push pull harness with a new toggle and output jack. I put a set of SD JB n 59 pups in it .. Great guitar plays nice. I think you will like urs too.... Congrats man and deff post pics when you get her...

Did you switch out the tuning keys from Chrome to the Pearl, if so where did you get them?

I was thinking about getting SD Slash Alnico II pickups for this one, but after listening to the BB 2/3 to Slash APH-2's comparison videos and of course listening to the BB 2/3 to PB 2/3 comparisons. I really did not hear enough of a difference to sway me towards changing them, so I am very much fine keeping the PB 2/3's in it.

YES!! E-bay they are called hipshot replacement buttons seems that hipshot and grover use the same buttons. I use these buttons on alot of my guitars. Yeah i wouldn't switch out the pups for the aph2's I think the BBs 2 n 3 are just fine. I did have to buy another set of pups for the last 59 i did cause it was a husk when i got the guitar. I put a SD Jazz and JB in that guitar with the cts and orange drop caps. I am still on the fence about not looking for a set of BB's for the guitar.... When i get home from work I will post link to those buttons...

The new Guitar has arrived. Brand new in a box with plastics attached, that is how ZZounds does it, I don't think they even take them out of the box to check them. The guitar came with a back bow, I had to adjust the neck and the bridge right away, so the guitar was playable. The guitar feels really good, a nice solid playable neck and the guitar is not very heavy probably in the mid to high 8lb range. After the adjustments, I played it for a bit and she feels pretty darn good. After a little bit, I oiled the fretboard and put on some new strings. Then I jammed on it for a little bit and made a couple more minor adjustments. Overall, I am pretty happy with her. She will need a fret leveling/crowning and a nut adjustment, but I will first put on the new Bridge and Locking tuners before taking it to Moze Guitar Shop.

How's the guitar coming ? Here is my 2020 classic i did all Gibson electronics and pups ( the 61s ) I didn't do the faber set up in this one. i went with the tone pro's in nickel. I think one of these days i might add a set of faber bridge pieces.. Make sure you post pics of your new guitar when you start to work on it. Now you got me wanting the 60's or the 50's standards in ebony.....

That’s Guitar looks awesome, very sweet.

I’m Still waiting on parts early next week. I have played it a couple times, feels pretty good. It definitely needs a full set up with fret leveling, I can’t wait to get that done after I make the changes. I wanna make the changes first so it has a perfect set up afterwards.

I just got through playing it acoustically for about an hour, wow I am really loving this guitar. I can't wait to get the fretwork done and everything adjusted with the new parts. This guitar is going to be killer, I am already feeling the bond, she is excellent, so sweet to play.

Yeah i was pretty impressed with my 60's guitar i bought last yr. You really can't beat the price with these things.. Can't wait to see how it comes out when your done. Your doing the Grovers and Faber on this one right?? Where you going to change out the pups and harness? Mine came with a messed up toggle and harness so I replaced that with one of those push pull Obsidian 60's harness and some SD pups.. Mine doesn't get played that much because of the 59's and the custom but when i do pick it up it's hard to put down...

I am just doing the Grover Locking tuners and Faber Bridge with Faber posts right now. I will play for a while and get to know how she sounds in all aspects of my playing before I think about changing the pups. I just got through playing for another 30-40 minutes A/B'ing the Gibson 60's with this Epiphone 60's. The Epiphone neck is close to the Gibson neck, I did some measurements, and it is 1/16th difference in a couple places, but still pretty much the same. The Gibson neck still does feel a little different that the Epiphone, I don't know what it is except maybe because the frets are rounded on the Epiphone and flatter on the Gibson. The Gibson Frets are just a tad bigger I think, but flat and not rounded on top. Anyway, the Gibson neck does not feel 2k better, I can tell you that. haha This Epiphone really feels great, and I haven't even done much with it yet.

The Epiphone weighs in at 8.7lbs, where the Gibson is 10.2lbs, definitely a big weight difference. I must have gone back and forth 30-35 times trying the same thing here and there on the neck. The Gibson sounds better Acoustically, maybe because of the higher degree bend in the headstock. The Epiphone is brighter when played acoustically, and definitely sounds different acoustically than the Lazarus which is nowhere near as bright, maybe because of the thicker neck. My Lazarus weighs in at exactly 9lbs.
