Thanks for the info, anyone with pics of this HOG R8 'flamey top' lefty re-issue, guys?
Here she is: I'm looking forward to checking it out in a couple of weeks when she arrives.

I'm sorry Whale, I didn't mean to derail your thread, Happy New Guitar Day! Hope to catch Violet Mary again one of these days soon, I heard you at last years Fairport Music Fest. Next time I'm at one of your gigs, I'll introduce myself.

OK, Lefty friends... here's a question for you. Every gibson I've owned has the volume knobs turning clockwise (or backwards for us). Do you guys re-wire your pots to spin correctly, swap them for lefty pots, or just live with it? On my LP Standard, i've swapped the pots. I'll likely do the same on the R8.

All the leftys I've evr had always had the volume knobs rotate clockwise to increase volume. Never been an issue with me. :dude:

the HOG web site isn't the best at showing you what LP stock they have, but it's nice to know such beauties are available ....

The HOG isn't a Gibson online retailer, so they don't advertise their new Gibsons, only their used ones. I get email alerts from them, which is ok with Gibson, (other dealers are free to do that as well) because of the relationship I have with them. I can't say that I've bought every new Gibson that I've owned from them, but I would have been happy to do so.

If I had volume and tone pots that were wired to increase by turning counter-clockwise, I'd re-wire them. EVERY reostat that is in use for the last fifty years has operated, clock-wise=increase, so it's what I'm used too. The one guitar that I've owned that was wired lefty got changed. At least PRSs, which are wired lefty, have knobs that are numbered counter-clock-wise.

Congrats on the new R8!

If I had volume and tone pots that were wired to increase by turning counter-clockwise, I'd re-wire them.
Me too, and I have re-wired every guitar that I've ever owned that was 'wired up lefty'... :thumb:.

I got an email from the HOG today and it looks like the scotchburst lefty R8 is about finished, 8lbs., 11oz., of stunning!

OOOHHH That's pretty!!!

It's strange to me that most lefties leave their pots turning clockwise (the same direction as a righty, just opposite function). I have to change mine over... All of my guitars have left-handed pots that open counter-clockwise... same function as a righty, just opposite direction. I tried living with the R8 wired clockwise, and kept closing the pots when I'd go for a feature! :)
