Finally got my brand new Epiphone PTP in honeyburst. It's a beauty and plays well. I got it on sale (15% off) for about $450.00 and I consider this guitar to be well worth that price.
Evaluation:
When I selected it, I tried every Epi' LP in the place, regardless of finish or color and picked the one that sounded and played the best. it turned out to be a very attractive Honeyburst..(see pic'). After going in a few times and playing it, I found that it stayed in tune very well and sustained clearly and evenly throughout the fretboard. This new Plus Top Pro has the coil-tapping push-pull knobs, which is not something I was really keen on having, but I will explore the sounds provided as time goes on.
The workmanship was pretty solid...I found a few minor finish issues, but nothing major at all. On the slight downside, the frets appear to be in need of a bit of leveling etc., but that is easily remedied, and something I would generally expect as a possibility on an Epi'. The action was a bit high to and probably needs a good setup.
I really really like it. No, it is not a Gibson LP...I'm under no illusions of that. To me the condition I found this guitar is, while well-worth the money I paid, is not something I would really expect to see on a Gibson LP which are the best of the best and usually close to flawless. But again, I paid about a quarter of the amount. These Epiphone LP's are sweet imo...I'm really really digging it and very happy. Love the subtle flame. Hail me.
