My new obsession! Loving this guitar, my first Gretsch! Question is, with pick guard or without? I'm liking it better without. Seems like too much gold with it and I like to see both F holes haha.

Definitely....either way. :)

Seriously, that's gorgeous in both configurations; I'd probably switch it every couple days. :)

Without...
I have a trans red 5422 double cut, no guard as well.
Absolutely love mine.

I would hit Paul Setzer from The Gretsch Pages up for a custom guard, he could make you a falcon guard or pretty much anything you like.

Here are 2 he did for me,

He did those for me ages ago, great guy to deal with and does great work, sign maker by trade and makes great decals including the G brand on my 5129. Here is a link to many of his custom guards

Highly recommend him.

If it was a DC then without. For a single cut the PG balances the look.

+1 (I think. Hard to tell actually...). And if it's the gold you don't like, you could allways paint it. White. Or black...

Sweet guitar either way. Congrat's!!!

On. Having the pickguard is part of the classic Gretsch "look." Gibson guitars work without the pickguard, Gretsch guitars don't....in my opinion, anyway.

I had one a few years ago. I was flawed by the quality of the guitar. I couldn't imagine how the quality of a White Falcon could possibly be any higher. I sold mine in the end as I just played my Les Paul more. Couldn't fault the guitar, though. I occasionally get gas for another.

Congrats ... I see, the Gretsch fan club is growing ;)

Regarding the pickguard ... what always annoys me are the open screw holes after removing a pickguard. That's why I didn't remove it on my Les Paul.
