Ltd. Ed. Riviera Custom P93 Blue Royale
Wanted to get a semi hollow body electric, and decided to get this one. Also wanting to get some P90s, this took care of both wants. Quite frankly, this guitar is a tremendous bang for the buck.
The deal: $399.99 offered by MF, price matched by GC, so still no tax or shipping.
The appearance/quality: Based on other new EPIs I've seen and EPIs past semi hollow body history, I had high hopes. I'm not the least bit disappointed. The fit and finish is amazing. Close to flawless. The Pearl blue with the "silver sparkle" bindings are a bit over the top, but do give it a nostalgic look. As does the nicely functional Bigsby.
The set up: Bridge was a bit high. I had it set up by my "pro", bridge set, intonation tweaks and that was it. Neck true, frets good.
The play-ability: I love it. Easy from top to bottom. D-Profile; SlimTaper is quite to my liking.
The sound (the almighty TONE): I'm impressed. To me, the third (middle) pickup is not really needed., but can add some to the tone combos you can get. With the only control to that pup being a volume control (all the way down for off), it really doesn't get in the way of the other two.
And what a wide range of tones it has. Cleans are impressive. I love my gain and distortion, but this sounds so good clean, I keep playing it clean not feeling compelled to alter it.
It is an absolute keeper!
