New guitar day. Actually, it was Wednesday that this guitar arrived. I traded a 1994 PRS CE22 with Tom Holmes pups and a few other custom add-ons.
This is a CA guitar. CA stands for Composite Acoustics. Composite Acoustic guitars are made from carbon fiber. They were made in LaFayette, Louisiana. They ended up closing shop and Peavey recently bought them out.
This model is an Xi guitar. The neck and the body are a single unit. Better coupling. The fretboard, bridge, saddles and string pegs are carbon fiber. The fret wires are stainless steel and very thin as opposed to jumbo.
FEATURES + SPECS
Scale Length 25 ½
Body Style Thin Body Cutaway
Body Width 15 ¼
Body Length 20
Body Depth 3 ¼
Frets Medium Stainless
Nut Width 1 3/4"
Overall Length 41"
Electronics
L. R. Baggs Element
with volume control
Sound Hole Inlay None
Fret Board Inlay Silver Dots to 19th fret
Tuning Gears Gotoh
Bridge String Spacing 2 1/4"
I hated to let the PRS go. I am weird about how the guitar plays. I don't care if the guitar has dents or dings but I do NOT want it to buzz or have the intonation out of whack. The PRS was perfect BUT I didn't have an acoustic.
I went to Acoustic Guitar Forum and placed an ad trading my 1994 PRS CE22 for an acoustic. I got several offers but this guitar seemed the best fit for what I wanted to do.
I am still bonding with the guitar. It has a unique sound. Some have said that CA guitars "voiced" their guitars on Taylor and Martin guitars. I'm not arguing with that. This axe sounds really sweet. I'm actually surprised how it does sound. But, it's not made of wood and that takes some getting used to.
I'll update as required. Clips to follow.
