They really don't get any better than this! As usual, I was perusing CL the other day and a Strat came up with a price that looked to good to be true. To be on the safe side, I fired of a message to the guy and left him my number. About 20 minutes later, I get a call and the guy says "well, I'm starting at the top and moving my way down". "You're number 2 out of 18 (or so) replies. The first guy hasn't called me back" :thumb:

My first question was, this is a Fender not a Squier right? Dude says "absolutely" so we set up a meeting for yesterday and I came home with this little gem! It's a 96 Fender MIM Strat with Fender locking tuners. And a NEW case! :dude:

You can't tell in the pics but the paint is a little beat up and the neck is worn but has tons of Mojo and it feels/plays great. Frets are in superb shape! I had a set of Fender American Standard pickups and electronics in my parts box so I threw them in this puppy and it ROCKS! Not bad for $150.00 right??? :dude::dude::dude:

That looks like a MIM 90s era Squier Series Strat. They are fine guitars and well worth the $150.

HNGD!

Hey Phil,

They are Alnico 5 from a 2011 American Standard. They're pretty hot and they sound great! :D

Thanks!

It's not a Squier though. The SN dates it as a 96 FENDER Strat. It's almost identical to my 98 MIM except it has a maple board.

Damn Hyper, you've got an arsenal of those bad boys. Good eye and a great find indeed.Good to see I'm not the only one with the hankering for single coils on occasion.

Damn, nice score! Definitely worth what you paid plus some! Congrats

Thanks! :thumb:

I'm really gravitating towards the Strats/Tele's these days. My double hum guitars aren't feeling the love these days. In the cases on the right are my SRV Strat, 52 RI Partscaster Tele and my 81 Fender Bullet. I also have a 70's RI Strat out being refinished in Daphne Blue. I have a horrible case of Fender GAS!!

Go to the last paragraph in this article. The one about the black logo MIM strats.

Buying a Fender Stratocaster - A Guide for the Novice

They are good guitars, but I am just letting you know what I think you have.

I think you may have the Traditional Series version. If the Squier Series logo was not removed.

Thanks for the link. Based on that article, mine would be a Fender MIM Traditional series (as you stated above). The finish on the headstock is uniform and it doesn't appear that somebody tried to remove the logo.

Hello my friend! It's been a while. Yeah, the wife knows. She's stopped asking questions and just looks at me like I'm crazy every time I bring home a new toy. :laugh2: I'm really quite fortunate in that respect. She's a good lady!:D

I actually love the necks on those guitars. They have nice small frets, and a really comfy profile.

My lady looks at me strange if I bring home a fully-functional guitar. And she smiles when I bring home pieces of one. She knows I LOVE building them. LOL

Love that woman!

its not the fender logo, its a little logo on the ball end of the headstock where there was a squier series logo. [see pic]

i had one and my squier logo was also mysteriously 'not there'.

either way, its a /win.:thumb:

Understood. Nothing was removed from the ball end of the headstock. The finish is PERFECT. Zero imperfections and no evidence of any tampering. :thumb:

That sucks! Around these parts, I'm usually in competition with two other guys. One of the 3 of us always ends up with the good stuff. :laugh2:
