One of my last acquisitions is this virtually unplayed 2014 ´60 single cut Custom Shop LP Special (made in early 2015 in fact) in rare black color.

Interesting on this reissue run is, thats its marked wrongly, cause in 1960 there were no single cut Specials produced. The neck has a pre 60 profile too, its a fairly chunky 57-58 profile. Its like a typical 57 singlecut LP Special reissue, only in black color, with all good 2014 upgrades. In certificate it is labeled as Les Paul Special single cut.

Anybody more with this short-run guitar?

Most important is, that this guitar is a major positive suprise to me. I once had a 2005 LP 57 Junior CS reissue and it was a good guitar, but this newer one absolutely kills it. Its a rocking wild beast, with gritty P90 bark, very loud and resonant with so much overtones. I cant believe how great these post 2013 reissues can be. I am wondering, if the P90s on Historic reissues changed slightly too, cause the ones in 05 Junior werent by far so open and lively sounding. And i am not a newbie with P90s, i had beside the mentioned 05 CS Junior a 64 SG Junior, 78 LP Pro and played many more P90s guitars.

This one is simply one of the best and most aggressive sounding and easy playing guitars. Paired with my 72 Hiwatt DR103 halfstack its a gritty heaven. I simply cant stop playing this guitar, it has so big fun-factor, more than many humbucker equipped reissues. :cool2:

Try these - they are really worth every penny. :)

That's soooo nice. I haven't seen a black reissue before. Can't get over how great it looks!

I love my 2007 Special! Same sort of thing as it is labeled a 60 but it really is a 1958.

HNGD and enjoy in good health.

Since we can never post enough pics, here is mine with my R8, so my two '58s in a sense.

The Historic SCs have been mislabeled as '60s models for years now.

My guess is Gibson doesn't want more serials in the '56 to '59 range so they went with '60?

It seems more apropos to call them '55s as Gibson rarely does a '55 reissue and SCs are correct for that year.

Here's hoping they get it right. The '60 nomenclature is simply all kinds of wrong as the necks on those SCs are huge.

Ive played more than a few original Specials and many have far more manageable necks.

I'd really like to see a run of SCs with '17 and up R9 rounded C shape neck specs (.86-.88 at the 1st).

I'd buy one of those. As is I've owned a couple of the '60 SC Specials and didn't get on well at all with the large deep shouldered necks.

Simply beautiful! Nice score prog! Hiwatt will love it!:cool2:

It is my own opinion, from observation, the Fiji mahogany is consistently the most resonant wood, making instruments that are acoustically loud, and ring with tons of overtones.I like!
