Has coil-split push knobs. Sustain for days! REALLY heavy, but I'm not complaining. Sounds amazing with the spinex pickups. Anyone have experience with Yamaha SG/SBG guitars?

Those look great in aged white! I say black for the p/g.. gold is a little too Elvis-ish over-the-top for me.

Anyone here have both a SG2000 and an Ibanez AR300? Wondering how they compare.

I would love to get one of those but they are hard to come by and very costly.
The new ones are waayyy more than what I can afford.

I missed out on one of these in about 1999 at a pawn shop in Northwest Arkansas. It was an SG2000, cherry sunburst, for something like $100. I passed because its electronics were messed up. At that time I didn't realize how easy those repairs are.

Sweet guitar man!

For the pickguard I'd say go with gold...gives it a sorta doublecut Gretsch white penguin vibe.

That is a steal, even in 1999.
Hope you get another chance... :D

Very nice guitar, when they first came out I played one and wanted it real bad. I just could not come up with the money at the time. Had two kids and was a single parent. I still wouldn't mind having one. I was told that Yamaha used Dimarzio pickups, but I don't know if thats true. Now I have 8 Grandsons and one Grandaughter I am a bless man.

I seriously doubt that. The SG3000 (and some other SGs like the 1300, 1600, 2500 etc) have the "Spinex" pickups which have quite a strong reputation. It's of course always possible that they subcontracted this to DiMarzio but that's the first I ever heard of it, and I've spent quite a bit of time researching these guitars.

Here's some good sources. There used to be a dedicated website for these from a collector (who had a gorgeous bright yellow SG2000 reputed to have been especially made for Carlos Santana's Australian tour at the time), but that seems to have gone offline now.

I have a black SG3000 and cream SG1300T myself and they're great guitars, but I'll say I don't like the thin necks on them.

Yes, all those whom have played an SG I know all say they are heavy.
Those that I have had the pleasure of holding are also heavy.
Sucks if you have to play it standing up all night.
But if you play sitting most of the time, it's OK.

Real hard to find one cheap these days.
All the owners have realised that they have a gem in their hands.
Not willing to part with them.
