I just picked up what I thought was an oddball SG... It turns out it's called a '61 SG Special 50th Anniversary. What caught my eye was the neck binding with the dot inlays. The Wilkinson tuners weren't expected either. I did a little research and this was supposedly a "limited run". I'm not sure how limited but I've never noticed it before so who knows? I will say that I'm impressed! I oiled the fretboard, adjusted the neck and put on new strings and I can't believe how well it plays and sounds. This is my first guitar with P90's... probably won't be the last! Anyone else have one of these? (pardon the reflection of me and my ceiling fan in the picture but it's shiny! Haha)

IMHO one of the finest SGs ever put out by Epiphone. Welcome to the club!

I'm liking that TV Yellow! I was actually looking at another SG thread and I noticed that guitar as your avatar. I realized that maybe it wasn't so uncommon after all!

Very nice! If only I could figure out how to have my pictures show up in the thread like yours did! haha

In your profile you have a photo album. Upload your photos to that and link them to a thread with the code provided beneath each pic. :thumb:

Also, the '61 SG is not really uncommon, but they only ran for the 2011/2012 model year. The TV Yellow models were made in the smallest numbers and sold out very quickly, as is the case with any TV Yellow Epiphone.

They were made in 2011/2012 as mentioned, but started really selling when they dropped the price to $299 in 2014, and the TV Yellow was gone by the end of March of last year (I bought myself one for my birthday that's how I remember). The rest followed within a few months. I think they made something like a couple thousand of each color? So they're not super rare, but they don't show up a lot on GC website and when they do they don't last long. Typical sale price on ebay and GC is $250 to $350 so they've at least held their value.

And they are great players. I really like the neck profile on mine and other than having to tap two frets back into place when I got it and replacing the bridge, it's been a pretty low maintenance growl-machine.

I HIGHLY recommend the Quan Badass bridge or a copy of it. I really like the sound. Note I had to countersink my posts to get the bridge as low as I wanted it.

Hehe yep. I got mine right before the prices dropped. Sigh. Still a great deal at $400 though.

I paid full price for mine too...well, sort of. $200 on a trade-in plus another $200. No regrets though.

Yeah when I got mine all the other colors were $299. But I WANTED yellow so bad I paid the extra $100 for it. Then a week or so later it was $299, then a week alter they were all gone.

I was considering making some sort of notches in the bridge to help tuning (I bend a lot). I have a Melody Maker with a similar bridge and I don't have tuing issues on that guitar. I will defintely look into a bridge upgrade if all else fails! Thanks! (speaking of thanks... care to direct the new guy to the thanks button?):)

You cant 'thank' your own threads, only threads started by other people. You can, however, 'like' other peoples' posts.

Oh, OK. I guess the "Thanks" are different around here haha. I've been on other forums in the past where if someone gave helpful information for example, they could be "thanked" regardless of who started the thread. Well, THANKS! and I suppose I'll settle for "liking" your post! haha :thumb:

I have a similar Gibson model - love it. P90 SG's are "to the max".
